Rims For G Sedans
what is the biggest size rims you can get for the G sedan that won't take away from the way the G drives. Someone told me you don't want to get rims because they will take away from the driving experience the car has to offer

I would say 20s is the max you want to go. Getting lightweight Forged wheels will actually enhance your driving experience. Whoever gave you that advice must not know much bout what they are talking about.

Just got 20s w/ 245/35/20 Dunlops, I can now drive this car the way it was meant to be driven. The stock 17s w/ those crap Goodyear RS-As really aren't a good fit for the G and its' 326HP. My car is much more connected to the road now and I can actually go hard into a corner without worry Road noise isn't much higher, the ride is a bit stiffer but not at all objectionable.

A set of 19s or 20s brand new can range from $200 to over $1000 a piece. Once you figure out your budget then you can wonder over the Vendor section for wheels/tires and start looking at what's available in your price range.
As far as popular brands_ Vossen, Volk, Work, Vertini, XIX, HRE, DPE, Iforged are all popular brand forum members have purchased. You can do a search using each brand as a key word and you'll get plenty of hits on this forum.
Good luck.

There's a point of diminishing returns which has been backed up by numerous tests in CarandDriver, Road and Track and others. Depending on your starting point +1 is good, +2 is even better but +3 starts to become too harsh. There's not enough sidewall to absorb the little stuff and the tire as part of the overall suspension system can no longer absorb the high frequency bumps and skitters accross the pavement. If you're starting with 17's and the 55 series tire (stock Infiniti) I would say that the above logic applies. A 50 series tire on an 18" rim (stock Sport set-up) will be good. A 45 series tire on a 19" rim will be great but on the street a 40 series tire on a 20" rim might be approaching diminishing returns. Also consider that a 20" rim is very heavy (metal weighs more than rubber) and you're likely to see some negative impact due to the increased weight.
The car I used to race had stock size of 16" with a 45 series tire. Most everyone ran a +1 with a 40 while some ran a +2 with 35. It was a car that's raced a lot and a lot of guys throw big bucks to test and try to optimize performance in areas like wheel size and tire size (some guys had 4-5 sets of wheels) and all of this testing resulted in consensus that the 17" with 40 was faster but that the 18" with 35 was marginal depending on the track surface. Keep in mind this also included shock and spring changes so the whole system would be optimized.
For what we do on the street and the limits we take the car to (or should take the car to) I think the 18" rim is the best blend of performance, look and cost. I'd much rather run a nice forged 18" wheel with good tire than a cheap 19" wheel with a crappy tire. If you have the $$ to by a nice 19" wheel and a nice tire then that might be the optimal set-up.

Rotational intertia ...
i have the xS with the OEM 18's.. but recently had a G37x loaner with the 17's...
the loaner '37 with the 17" rims felt lighter on its feet, quicker off the line and free-er to rev while cruising -- this of course makes sense since it's got the smaller rims, probably a bit lighter and less mass at the periphery of the wheel ..
I felt the same diminished "returns" when i put 18's on my 2k4 Acura TL (replaced the stock 17's) and the car definitely handled a bit better, but felt heavier and boggier off the line...
I sorta miss that lighter step from my loaner...
Something to consider when going bigger...

^ Well unless you look at the actual mass of the wheels. For example, I'm sure that there are several styles of 19" of maybe even 20" BBS wheels that would be lighter than the stock 18s or 17s.

TireRack...awesome customer service and they will call you if the wheels/tires you order won't fit your car or if the size you choose has the potential of throwing off any vehicle sensors/warning indicators, prior to processing your order. Be careful, just b/c the wheels and tires you choose may fit, there's a chance it may mess with your VDC.

Check my post #15 in this thread, it'll show you my 20s, luckily the additional weight is pretty minimal, the car is much more connected to the road now, drives almost like our 07 G w/ 18's just a bit stiffer.
