New wheels without TPMS sensors installed

Just installed some 20s w/out TPMS sensors, and much to my surprise the warning light has NOT gone on at all. I was led to believe I'd have to put up w/ that yellow tread light glowing constantly. Just wondering if perhaps in 09 they did something to the program that keeps the light off if no sensors are installed?

I know my TPMS program works since it came on during a very cold night once.

Federal law dictates that the light must be on if the TPMS sensors are not activated.

As you’re now subject to immediate arrest, if the light doesn’t come on soon, you must go to your dealer immediately and have the warning light turned on.

It will come back on eventually. Drive on the interstate for a bit. Thats what it took for mine to come back on after a trip to the dealership to get a code cleared

Thanks for the replies. I just took a few short trips in town, but yesterday took it on a 400 mile trip and sure enough about 15-20 mins into the drive it started blinking. Now it comes on right away But at least it's small, doesn't blink and is easy to ignore (much like my boss )

It’s nice to know you’ve been able to rationalize this constant warning light. I couldn’t do that; such a device telling me something is wrong would drive me nuts.

i kept the TPMS off my aftermarket 24"s for my QX56.... I check my wheels once a week for air pressure -- I'm still old school in that market instead of a sensor

Here's the wheels, it's a 39mo lease so I'm keeping the crap stockers (wheels or fine but the Goodyear RS-As are bad)for when I turn it back in

At the risk of repeating myself, checking your tires once a week is insufficient. It could take no more than a matter of minutes to have a tire blow from a slow leak on a hot day at freeway speeds. The feds required TPMS as the aftermath from those SUV tires that blew out and resulted in a multiple deaths a few years ago. So, as unlikely as it may be, there is an intrinsic benefit in having a functional TPMS.

I would no more do that than I would disconnect my air bags or seat belts. After all, we paid for these systems so what sense does it make to disconnect them?

Good Points, and there is a chance that could happen, I check my tires pretty regularly and definately before longer trips. Ideally I'd prefer to have my TPMS on, and may get the sensors installed in my new wheels. I still don't feel it's as critical as other systems in the car. But I'm not trying to convince you otherwise, just how I feel. TPMS or no TPMS wasn't a consideration when I made this car purchase, but your points are well taken.

Speaking of warnings, why the hell doesn't the G have an oil guage???

What brand of wheel is that as it looks great? Also what tires do you have? Did you purchase on tire rack?
