I have a '07 Audi A6 coming off lease and I'm considering 2010 G37X. It seems that the 17" tires that come with that car are the Goodyear RS-A's which get poor reviews at TireRack. The 18" tires that come with the G37XS are Dunlop Sport Maxx and they get outstanding reviews. Interesting that the Infiniti owners rate the RS-A's better than anyone else. I'm more concerned about safety in rain/snow/ice and handling than durabilty.
Any suggestions? I don't know if it pays to get the Sport mostly for the tires since it seems that the bigger brakes and the quicker steering are not part of the sport package in the G37Xand the seats get mixed reviews.

Yep. As I said in that thread, it was odd that the opinions varied so greatly. The tire discussions here are similar to the oil threads. Lots of answers with good information that often do not have the same conclusion. We have had a really cold stretch here this week (temps as low as minus 24) and all the streets in town are snowy/snow packed and or icy. The RSAs still seem to work fine for me. I can only gauge them against the tires/handling of my previous Volvo AWD (Conti Extreme Contact and Goodyear Eagle UHP AS) and my wife's RAV4 (AWD with Yokohama Geolandar). The Infiniti with the RSA's is better than the Volvo and just as good as the RAV4. The only thing that I am sure about is that I have never felt they were unsafe as some others have. But, no doubt you will soon get a different opinion.

I said it in the other thread and I'll say it again here. The RSA's are not good. I am in the Rockies, drove the RSA's and the Dunlops all week with 3 straight days of snow and ice at -2 to -16 degrees. I spun an AWD caddy 180 degrees twice...while powered the dunlops into and out of corners with not a single problem. They are far superior in the cold and snow. Maybe I got a bad pair, or maybe High Alt's are the exception...I'm just saying that I can't wait to get rid of my RSA's.

The Dunlop Sport Maxxxx tires are really great. the day i picked up my car it snowed 2 feet and i put the car in reverse lightly stepped on the gas and i pulled right out. i then test the tires out on the snowy roads. I found that first driving slowly the tires feel like its on a wet road, when i did some moderate driving at around 40mph on some side roads where there was abundant snow the car stayed planted and when i thought that i lost it the VDC kicked in and helped out.
as for driving in summer time in moderate temperatures like 80 - 95 degrees the tires feel great and you can go into and out of a corner without thinking about loosing grip.
ride quality is also great. I lowered my sedan and put 20" wheels the ride suffered a little bit, but when i put back the stock wheel and tires the car seems to be more planted and confortable to drive.
