I was cut off while driving and ending up scratching the front right rim on the curb. I'm pissedShould have got the plate but was more curious to see the damage.

I've called 2 local reputable shops and the prices differ some what:

First place says the process shall take 2 days and costs more than a regular alloy because of the finish (hyper silver) asking price = $240 + $20 balancing (canadia $)

Second place is a mobile shop, car would be returned the same day. A member on this forum used them before for his non-S wheels and the results looked great. Was told the finish on both S and non-S wheels is the same hyper silver and the asking price = $150 (canadian $)

I'm curious as to why is there such a drastic difference? Does it really take so long to repair a wheel?

 

show some pictures, i had some curb marks on my rim, I asked around and everyone seem to said for 1 rim, it cost around 100-150 dollars to fix, done within the day, so i don't know where you called for first place, very off

 

i'm sure those are canadian prices but quality has a price.

You are correct about quality, but there is also extortion, lol. Like I said the job they performed for a lower price was of great quality and the turn around time was excellent.

 

The mobile shop most likely has less overhead and employees to pay.

 

Because every business determines their own profit margin. If you've seen the work of the cheaper shop and like it, what's the problem?

One shop takes longer than another because they are busier. They probably do a variety of other work besides wheel repair. I took mine to the best place in town. It took 4 days. I later came to find out that the mobile place who charges a few dollars less than the shop I chose often takes wheels to the shop I chose if it's a difficult repair because they are the best.

 

It doesn't say where exactly you are in Canada but if you are in the Ottawa area a recommended shop is Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists Ottawa located in the west end of Ottawa (Silicone Valley North if you are familiar with Ottawa).

I recently curbed my front passenger OEM rim (about 5 spokes long around the rim at very low speed) and they said they would do it for me for $175 since it's not the easiest finish (it has silver and black in it he said). Once I change over to my winter snow tires next month I will bring it in. They do not need to take the tire off the rim - just deflate it somewhat apparently...
