Looking for a year-round wheel upgrade. Need advice. Come on in...
Hi all,
I need some friendly advice, with pictures if possible. I've wanted to plus-size my wheel setup since I got the G, but I want one set to to serve me all year round. I originally considered upgrading the 17s to OEM Non-Sport 18s, but decided that the small change in looks did not warrant the cost/hassle. I then strongly considered getting 20s (Vossen 082s top my list, at least based on looks), but going with this option will definately require a winter wheel setup, and I just don't have the money or storage space for two sets of wheels. So then I've kicked around the idea of getting the OEM Sport 19's, but since running staggered on AWDs is universally advised against*, I'd need to find 2 sets of fronts or 2 sets of rears- and this is probably a bigger PITA than its worth for heavy 19" wheels that are not anything special to look at. So... this all brings me to what at the moment seems to be a good compromise between looks, cost, and my requirement to have 1 non-staggered wheel setup all year round- aftermarket 19s. I've looked on all the big wheel/tire online shops and haven't yet found anything I'm crazy about. If anyone can help out with pics of the sedan on 19s, lowered on Eibachs, preferrably Moonlight White and AWD, that would really help things!
TIA
*I am aware of the argument that it is the wheel diameter and not width that is important for AWD, but it is unclear what difference between front/rear diameters are okay. I've seen <5% recommended, but if this is the case, then I'm not sure why staggered setups are discouraged for AWD cars, since all but the most aggressive staggered setups have much less than 5% difference between front/rear diameters.

The other component you've neglected to mention with a wheel swap is performance. Going with a heavier, cast 19 or 20" wheel will increase your unsprung weight and negatively affect acceleration, braking and handling. A wheel heavier than OEM specs will also have greater wear on components like brake pads and rotors.
You asked for some friendly advice and I'd suggest you look at a good set of forged 18" wheels like the BBS RgR. They'll be both lighter and stronger, with no tradeoffs in performance.

Does anyone know the weight of the OEM AWD 17", OEM Sport 19"?
WHy not keep your wheels as winters? U already have them so its just a matter of mounting them twice a year...
I got an XS and I am also looking at different wheels. I considered a set of coupe 19s while keeping mine for the winter but decided against it for the same AWD related reasons you mentioned. I wonder if there are enough people in the same boat on the forums becasue then we could consider buying 2 sets of used coupe rims and splitting them up fronts and rears. I think they look pretty good. Here is a picture of a car that belongs to a member of the G35NYC forum:

Sent you a PM. Perfect that you are in NYC... this may work!!!
those ar ealso pretty nice! but i like the coupe 19s better. CLassy keep in mind that you will have to buy tires regardless if you want all season ones but coupe tires are proly easy to sell if they are like new.
