Got a call from Tire Rack?

I just ordered a set of Yokohoma S Drives for my 08 G37 "S"...

I was called and had a message saying they wanted to be sure my order was correct because they dont reccommend the rear tire size I ordered...Can someone confirm that I chose an ideal size before I call them back? Thanks..

Front - 245/40R-19 Yokohama S.drive

Rear - 275/35R-19 Yokohama S.drive

His message stated they felt the rears were shorter then they rec...Anyone?

The Plus Zero (same diameter wheel, greater tread width with small sidewall to retain same rolling radius) sizing for the stock 19" wheels IS the 245/40/19 fronts and 275/35/19 rears which you ordered.

I have no idea what "shorter" rear tires might mean.

Neal (from the Tire Rack) should be back from vacation. Ask him to confirm what I said.

Shorter means that the sidewall height on the tires yo ordered are not as tall as the height of the OEM size. It will result in a rougher ride - you will feel imperfections in the road surface more. The tires will fit on your wheels and they will look better, but the ride quality will suffer. It s a trade off.

I'm pretty much going to say the BB is the tire guru, he always has the answer to tire questions.

Thanks but that's hardly the case. I'm still learning like everyone else.

I did have that same size in that particular tire though so I can speak about it from personal experience. I loved them even though the ride was a little harsher. It was much better than the 285/30/20 I have now though.

The sidewall is only 2 mm shorter, not enough to be an issue IMO. The main difference in ride degradation comes from "feeling" more of the road through the tires due to being 30 mm wider on each side.

I think you should start a OEM Sport Wheel Aftermarket Tire Replacement Thread. I hate the fact that every site you plug a G37 into as the vehicle the only tires it spits back are our OEM Bridgestone Potenza's and now some minor variation of the Potenza. I'd like to know which other options I can go with, like these Yoko's. I would have never known really what sizes match up similarly to the OEM tires.

You can play around with this calculator and see what sizes match up well. There's a sticky in Wheels and Tries forum with info on our OEM wheel/tire specs.

Why do you suggest that?

I strongly disagree with that advice. 35 series is 4 mm (0.6%) shorter than OEM size, 30 series is 30 mm (4.4%) shorter. That is too much for speedo to be correct and maintain suspension geometry. It's generally accepted that you want to try to stay within 1% difference in overall diameter when plus or minus sizing wheels.

My .02 anyway.

I just plugged those figure into the calculator that you showed me and it say's too short. Maybe if there was a good drop on his car and he needed extra room to clear, but on OEM suspension they're going to look I think noticably smaller.

Typically we see a 285/35-19 on the G rear. The 275 makes the tire a tad shorter than typically put on there. That's what tossed the flag via our ecomm dept. They make load and others use them so I dont see an issue.

We have to check with every order that comes in via ecomm a bit off the menu. Some people order wrong by accident and we'd rather catch it than assume its been ordered ala carte on purpose.

Remember you now have a Tire Rack rep here. If you put my name on the order or call me directly it will save a phone call from us.
