powder coating / glossing

i've decided to go black and red with my car, bought 50 led lights for the inside.

then i posted questioning the vinyl overlays.

the other thing i was wondering is.... i've been looking at some black rims.. but the ones i end up liking are like 400$ each... and it already comes with an expensive set of rims, and I'm just gonna end up putting the stock ones in the garage... so...

how much is powder coating, or can you get your rims glossed in black like people do to the grilles, emblems, and chrome lip? (can you do that yourself?)

if you are up for the dyi, the items you need would cost around 50 bucks to do the whole project. if you want to get it powdercoated, i got quoted around 260 or 65 dollars each.

its easy to dyi. just need patience on letting spraying them, then letting them dry, then sanding, then doing the same process like 5-15 times for each rim. it takes around 1-2 days to finish, if you are doing it right.

Powder coating is the most durable out of all the options.

powder coating is definitely the most durable out of the above options, however, I've sprayed my own rims in the passed and never had a single problem... it has to be done right and you have to take your time.

where can you buy the the supplies for spraying your own rims at?

i guess just take the wheels off and it should be ok to leave the tires on, then just spray it?

Honestly, I know it's gonna save you money, but getting your wheels done professionally is worth the small amount of money that they charge.

You should only paint things that are easily replaced or can be done back over easily(i.e. front grille), . If you make a mistake with your wheels you could have a lot of aggravation coming your way, and you might just end up having to take them to a shop.
