resetting the ecu is done how and why is that necessary, whats its purpose?

Do a search on how to reset the ECU. This has been asked many times before. The reason you want to reset the ECU is to clear the values it learns for your current setup. I cannot give you the exact values that are cleared but it runs these values affect airflow, etc which can change. You don't need to necessarily reset your ECU because the system will eventually relearn but that can take 1000 to 3000 miles from what I've heard. Resetting the ECU clears the values so your system can relearn much quicker and this allows the car to produce more power from the mod you added.
