So I went to Z Nationals for the first time. Got an on-site pass as I was originally considering showing my car... but no point LOL. Most of the cars that won stuff had $50K+ in mods. Not that I'm complaining - just wasn't a 'lightly modified' kinda show. Maybe 200 cars and 500 people at the peak. Z1's new building is pretty neat - they were giving tours. The prototyping and engineering areas are clearly the main thrust aside from the ecommerce business.
The Z1 folks were nice and knowledgeable. The crowd was a bunch of Z geeks as you'd figure
So enough of my rambling - on to the pictures. It was very sunny/glarey, as you can see - these aren't my finest pics, even from a phone.
I like the Z with the customized, tubular front frame with no bumper. That's hard core. And the GTR with the tubular FSTB... that also caught my interest for some reason. There's something almost steampunk about those welded pipes.
How many attendees do you think are on the forum? And did anyone know you were "rotarymike" the forum Mod?
There were 2 hardcore track toys with the tubular front end. Both of them had the gutted front end sitting behind the car - attached with bungees for driving.
@Rochester No, it wasn't like Rotary Rally or Rotorfest or Sevenstock days of yore where I was well-known by most of the money players. Trey Cobb sold imported RX7 stuff, Kevin Landers was some dude with a hand-made conduit rear strut bar and Rotary Resurrection wasn't a thing yet. Sigh... the good old days LOL.
There was a Charleston few, unbeknownst to me until near the end. One guy with a G35 automatic who I'd met before and a lady with a purpled out G37 from Carolina Z Club. Neither of them on the forum - Facebook only
@RobC7 the new Z looks really nice in person. The pictures (including mine) do something weird with the proportions, whereas in natural light the style lines all blend well. Still not in love with the giant square grille, but I had to point that out to my buddy for him to notice it (he's more a GM kinda guy - neck deep in restoring a 50s Buick so he was just there to look at the pretty colors).
The more I look at it, the more I like the offroad 350. It has G35X underpinnings - he mated two wrecked cars to create that monster. Reminds me of the Batman Tumbler.
Cool pics and looks like a great turnout…a buddy of mine has a highly modded 300zx and he’s been there a few times (I think-but maybe it’s Z fest?) dunno but he couldn’t go this year because of Covid restrictions at the border.
