Took my car to the dealer to try and get a popping sounds coming from

the area between the drivers console and windshield diagnosed, they took a look and said they are going to replace the entire windshield on Thursday, seems a bit extreme but i cant argue with getting a nice new windshield, last month when i took the car in for a brake shimmy they replaced the rotors and pads with all new stuff ! guess since Infiniti pays the bill they dont mind just replacing everything with new parts.

This is exactly what I've always thought needs to be done to my car - let us know if that makes the popping go away - it's driving me NUTS!

Any updates on this? I have the same kind of noises coming from the dash/windshield area. I'd like to know if it is in fact the windshield. Thank you.

ok, so i got the car back on Friday with the new windshield and on the way home i started to notice another sound, like very low radio static noise coming from the center of the dash where it meets with the windshield this sounds is constant though when the car is moving, not just over bumps, so now i have to set up another appointment to have them see if they can figure how to get rid of this one , ill let you know what happens

That sucks. It's not a high pitch noise that changes pitch when you press on the gas? I remember my friend's car did that after a shop messed with some speaker wires in his dash. But you're saying it's a static noise...

I have the exact same problem, except it started happening after I got my wind shield replaced.

Solution: get a strip of weather proofing foam from Home Depot and stick it in the trouble area.

Since my windshield is now after market, I didn't bother going to the dealer about the noise.

TicketProof, if you're going to redo the windshield, maybe you can try leaving the car overnight so everything cures and sets before you introduce vibration to it (drive it). I think when everything was still fresh, since I drove home right away, air got inside the sealant and the bond wasn't complete. No problem in the rain or wash though.

Do you hear the new noise when the car is stationary? If not, I bet it's an air leak. When you have a windshield installed, you should let sit at minimum for several hours. Get a loaner and let them hold the car for you overnight. I bet they will want to reinstall the windshield.

I have this problem too. Let me ask you this... Have you ever heard it when it's been raining and the car is pretty wet? I bet you haven't... I stumbled across the cause by accident a few months back when I was squeegeeing my windows. I was leaning over to reach the passenger side of the windshield and I put my hand on the black plastic cowl under the windshield for support. When I did I heard the same exact popping noise that I've heard inside. I pushed the plastic several times and it kept making the noise but became a bit less with each push, as though I was either re-seating a clip or flexing old plastic and loosening it up. Anyhoo, i made an appt with the stealership to have it looked at. The day I took it in was a warmer winter day and it was raining and as luck would have it, the popping noise that could always be heard over bumps could not be heard when we drove it around for me to show him the sound. Luckily the tech said he look at it anyway and replace the weatherstripping on the underside of the cowel. Ever since he did that, the noise has dissappeared until recently and is just now starting to return. I'm guessing that the padding the weatherstripping provided has compressed or broken down to the point where it's no longer isolating the rubbing caused by normal body flex. I'm planning on taking the cowel off myself to investigate but haven't had time yet. I'll let you all know what I find because I know how irritating it can be to drive a nearly 50k car that's creaks like an old cabin door.

I don't know if the dealership checked it, but FWIW make sure the cowling on the bottom of the windshield is clean. I know some people had creaks/groans and they took the cowling off and cleaned it as well as throw some silicon lube and the noise was gone

There are several threads about windshield popping sounds when the vehicle is cold and you go over bumps, particularly if the bump is only on one of the wheels causing the car to flex; like a driveway taken at an angle. I believe most have concluded it was the windshield cowl accessible from the outside that needed to be thoroughly cleaned and a special windshield sealant put on.

I think a search would pull up one the refers to "solution found".
