They're going to take a look at it on Thursday. Hopefully they will take care of it for me. If not, it will have to wait because it's just too expensive.

How much was the sensor? That why I bit the bullet on the extended warranty. I was scared of all these electronics. Hope so too...keep us posted...

The sensor by itself is about $2000. Had I known about it before my warranty was up for sure, I would have taken it in and they (presumably) would have taken care of it without me worrying.

Now, it's still up in the air for me as to whether or not it will be covered.

Damn! That's a lot...I hope they do too...or that it's something else and not the sensor...

Usually I wouldn't be concerned with it. I figured with how good the G was to me, that anything that would have happened, would have been taken care of by the previous owner. Clearly they didn't care that they had a functioning forward sensor. Who knows, maybe it's just misaligned....I hope.

Thanks man. If not, I'm just going to live with it. Even though just this morning, I had the ICC on (just using it as normal cruise but in adaptive mode) and I drove over a patch of newly paved concrete, something I've driven over many times before since getting the car, and it decides to slam the brakes on me!

It just keeps getting better and better...smh

Do you have the window sticker for your car? Was the aero bumper factory installed? Just wondering if the car might have been in an accident...and somehow the sensor mount got bent...

I do have the window sticker. The car history came up as accident free. I would think that anything where the bumper would have to be replaced would have been done by insurance, and therefore, reported.

It's just odd because the sensor picks up semi trailers, then out of the blue, did this crazy stopping for no reason on me. I can check out the window sticker though. It's at home. On a side note, it's crazy what these cars MSRP at.

Still cheaper than an equally equipt Mercedes, BMW, Audi or Lexus. I bought new and got it MUCH lower than sticker, lower than invoice too.

Agreed. I drove an e350 and 528i and though they were both really nice, they didn't have any of the same options as the M had. And (hopefully) the reliability of the this M (where it matters) will be just as good as other Infinitis.

Update: Brought the car in today to my dealership. They said that they couldn't find out what was wrong but they were able to replicate the issue. They said the computer wasn't giving them any codes, the sensor was aligned properly and that sometimes, when on the closest distance setting that it would sense the car ahead.

He thought there might have been something that happened when they replaced the steering wheel trim around the switches so his thought was trying to replace the switches first. If not that, then they may go into getting a new sensor. He did mention that they would "go to bat" for me if they have to try the sensor. He was very nice about the whole thing.

Props to Glen at Zimbrick.

Had the car in to get the switches replaced. Did not fix the problem, which was what I originally thought. The tech then tried to re-aim the laser, even though it wasn't throwing any codes and discovered that the laser wasn't working properly. So that means my original suspicion was correct. New sensor with labor is $2600. The SA said he couldn't do anything at this point and suggested that I call Consumer Affairs. I'll be on the horn shortly.
