New Infiniti in the garage.. 09 FX35
The wife traded in her 06 FX35 this weekend. Driving impressions so far:
The suspension re-work (double wishbone in place of struts) makes for a smoother, more comfortable ride yet with less or equal body roll in the corners. The VQ35HR feels much more peppy than the 06 FX35's engine and seems to rev forever. The JATCO 7AT tranny is a big improvement. The two extra gears are mostly used to increase performance, with 7th used as a cruising gear that delivers about 2100rpm at 80mph. The tranny locks up the torque converter much more readily, which eliminates much of that "slush-box" feel you get from a loose TQ converter and makes the car feel more like a manual. The car also likes to downshift while slowing down, eliminating the previous FX's tendency to want to keep going as you approach a stop. This car feels like it wants to cooperate and come to a stop rather than fight you and keep rolling. Shift speeds seem about the same as the 07 G35 sedan's 5AT.
Overall I think it is as much a better FX as the G37 was a better G. The car is quieter inside, better assembled (smaller body panel gaps, better interior fit/finish), and can push you into the seat a bit now when accelerating.

Kind of a bummer there's no sport seats or CDC suspension offered on the new FX35.

The wife's 06 FX35 was a sport w/ the 20s.
The new car rides very comparably.. just a bit less harsh over bumps and a bit less roll in the corners. The 06 kind of hit a little rough over bumpy roads by comparison.
I think the suspension on the Touring-equipped 09 FX35 (w/20s) provides pretty much the same handling capability as the sport suspension w/ 20s did on the 1st generation car but at a more comfortable, more upscale ride quality.
