Ticket for "modified" exhaust??

So this jackas$ cop decided to pull me over today because my exhaust is "modified". According to him, its illegal and he gave me a citation for it. Its a Greddy Ti-C, and from what I heard, its street legal. Anybody have an idea as to how I should proceed with this?

In California modifying "any" factory OEM exhaust is illegal. It will pass sound, but it is still a modified exhaust system. Honestly it is even considered modified exhaust in california if you have after market chrome tailpipes. Usually police officers do not enforce this code unless you have a rattle-can rice rocket, or beastly insane non catted mustang. This is not a cheap ticket, but California is having debt issues. I'm sorry to hear this happened to you.

Its NOT illegal to modify the cat back exhaust, as long as you meet certain standards of db noise, this is taken from the DMV!>

V C Section 27151 Modification of Exhaust Systems
Modification of Exhaust Systems
27151. (a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5 (commencing with Section 27200). No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system so modified.

(b) For the purposes of exhaust systems installed on motor vehicles with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of less than 6,000 pounds, other than motorcycles, a sound level of 95 dbA or less, when tested in accordance with Society of Automotive Engineers Standard J1169 May 1998, complies with this section. Motor vehicle exhaust systems or parts thereof include, but are not limited to, nonoriginal exhaust equipment.

Amended Sec. 10, Ch. 92, Stats. 2001. Effective January 1, 2002.

I can almost guarantee that an aftermarket exhaust is too loud. The stock one barely passes as-is.
