I-75 Radar hot spots?

I'm driving from the Tampa Bay area up to Blairsville, GA next week using I-75.
I take this route often - but it never fails to amaze me when I see the sneaky ways the cops/troopers have radar set up - especially GA.
Anything anybody know about that might be new along the route?

If anything its going to be right around the FL/GA line always been a hot spot for decades. Get a radar detector, even if you return it when you get back its a good idea to have one.

Radar all the way. Mine saved me today. Even though I was only going 10 over. The road I was on is strict. I swear my V1 can pick up half a mile away. Also what days your traveling is a big help. Try to find someone that's setting a fast pace and pace them from a distance. It's not much but every little helps. But I recommend getting radar.

Radar is definitely good, but to be honest, if you're travelling 75 and the interstate, 9 times out 10 the patrol car will be using Laser instread of Radar. In that case, the radar detector isn't going to do you much good.

Agree with the above, be careful coming through right at the line and through the small town south of Atlanta. They love out-of-towners coming through.

Georgia State Patrol most certainly does use Laser. I travel 75 daily from North GA to downtown and see it daily.

Here's an article about them using laser in Dahlonega.

I don't know if Diamond was joking or not. But the GSP are no joke around here. I mostly see them on HWY's and interstates though. But every time I pass one any where else there never running radar/laser. Doesn't mean much.

Yes, you wont have much of a chance at radar if shoot. But there's a good chance that if they shoot someone way in front of you, you could pick it up for an instant and know to slow.

Blackjack, do you think you will be coming to open house at Forged?

I hate the stretch of I-475/I-75 from outside of Macon to Atlanta - see more cops/troopers there than at Dunkin Donuts!
And outside of Tifton last fall, they actually had a wolf pack set up on an overpass - didn't see it til right on it. Thank everyone who flashed their lights on the other side.

I am thinking about getting a radar detector - but I don't want a false sense of security. I do look for a "rabbit" that's moving fast, and follow.
Do the combo laser/radar detectors really work - would they be better?

BTW - thanks for all the help everyone!

Almost all detectors now detect both Radar and Laser, but the key thing to remember about laser is that it is for the most part instant. Once the po-po piont it at your car, clicks the button or whatever, he basically has your speed.

Is a radar/laser detector worth it? To me, most definitely. If anything, when you hear it go off, it's a reminder to check your speed. I find I often feel like I'm going slower than I really am in the G. Your best bet is either going to be an Escort 8500 or 9500 series or the V1. Arguments could go on for years on which is better, so let's not go there. I prefer the Escort.

I usually travel 285 on the west portion and i havent seen too many troopers there but when i do they are usually flying past me and im doing about 75-80. one good thing to check on is the state laws on speeding, one says you must be going 10 mph over the posted speed limit . another one is they must be visible 2-3 hundred feet before and after the point of which the radar or laser is being used. these rules or laws are in the law library at the public court house for anyone to review.

True, but it's going to take a $600-1000 lawyer to beat it after they give you ticket. Compared to the $150+ the ticket would cost. Sucks both ways.

Well guys -
I made it from Tampa Bay to Blairsville and back with no tickets
Left on Tuesday, saw lots of troopers in GA, and came back Friday, and saw lots of troopers in FL.
I did buy the Escort 8500- it saved my butt a couple of times. Definitely worth the money.
Thanks again for all the help and advice.

I did see a LP G37 traveling on I75 North just south of ATL around noon on Tuesday - anyone from here? I was in the Titan, so you wouldn't have noticed my vehicle.
