Window tinting in DFW

Hey all, just bought my first car, a 2009 G37x Coupe and looking to get my windows tinted. Any recommendations for places in DFW? Also, any advice on type and level of tint? I want to stay legal, don't wanna risk that fine, but not sure if I want to do darker in the back. Thoughts?

Thanks!

I have a guy who does tint on the side. He works for dealerships installing tints for them but also does it from home on the side. He's in Grand Prairie if you're interested give me a PM and I'll give you his number.

It's all up to you. The door windows can be tinted up to 35%, the back can be up to limo tint. With the hate in Texas I get mines tinted to the max. My previous car I had 15% and it was pretty good. Texas is not strict with tint, you'll hardly get fined here.

Also another thing is when getting vehicle inspected, leave your windows roll down if you go dark..also some other things that play a role in how dark it is, is your interior color. Black interior will make tint look MUCH darker than light/tan interior.

Like you posted earlier. Not sure if you checked or not but the tint law changed in 2009. It can now be 25% instead of 35%. I got my car in 2008 with the tint already installed and it's at 35% cause that was the law back then. Well the stealership offers life time warranty on their tint which is a good thing but it is $300 for the tint.

Thank you for the info on both threads. Think I'm gonna stay away from the stealership, found lifetime warranty's from reputable shops for under 200.

Thanks for the update, I did not know they changed the tint law in 2009. Thanks for the update information.

I've heard good things about Alta Mere in Dallas. I plan to get mine done there. $269 for 28/14% with a lifetime warranty.

Alta Mere in Plano is the company where a large used car dealership used to take their cars to have the tinting done.
They then switched over to Pro Tint, which is also in Plano. I took my previous car to Alta Mere, and took my G to Pro Tint. I did Ceramatrix for front and rear, 30% front, 15% rear. I could have gone 5% in the back, but I do like it how it is. Get yourself a sun shade for the front window and you'll be set for the TX summers.

Tritek in garland is hands down the best. They have great film that does not fade or turn purple... Talk to lance he's a beast.

Old thread here, but this is the only thread found in my search of "window tint texas".

This weekend I took my one-owner 2009 G37 in for a state inspection and they said my windows were tinted too dark, can't pass it. Said their meter read it at 13-15%, and the law allows down to 25%. They do look pretty dark, but it's a dealer installed tint and I bought the car new Nov 4th, 2009 from Sewell Infiniti, Dallas. Only thing different about my purchase is that it was a dealer-demo car, and had ~6,500 miles on it - this saved me a few thousand. The car was manufactured in Nov 2008.

So, the window tint law did change Sept 1st, 2009, I bought it a month later.

http://www.iwfa.com/News/Legislation...xasAlerts.aspx

It passed the 2011, 2012, and 2013 inspections. Guess this weekend they finally checked it?

The tint sticker on the window says "Complies with VESC-20 Sewell Infiniti of Dallas 214-353-2000".

So, do they owe me a new tint, at least on the front two side windows? The current law allows the rear side windows to be completely dark, same as the rear window, but the front side windows can't be over 25%.

I plan to talk to the dealership tomorrow but just wondering if anyone else has seen this issue with their cars.

Just to follow up, Sewell Infiniti of Dallas replaced (at no cost to me) the tint on my front driver and passenger windows with a 30% tint film, they didn't want to put a 25% on there since the factory glass already has a 2-3 percent tint. Add that to a 25% tint and it would be below the Texas legal limit of 25%. They put on a new state inspection sticker for free, too.

It looks good, I thought the difference would be significant but it wasn't. Now I can see better (at night) through the driver's side front window better, before with the darker tint (13-15%) I had a hard time seeing where I was going when making left turns at night onto an unlighted street. I had to lean forward to see the street through the front windshield.

EDIT: this chart shows the tint darkness percentages per state. 25% means it lets 25% of the light though. I'm surprised at the number of states that allow only a light tint of 70% - like seven of them.

I appreciate your pointing out how difficult it can be to see at night with illegal tint. I’ve been saying that for years, but some diehard tint advocates around here only talk about how often they’re pulled over and how much they’re willing to get tickets just to keep their unsafe tint.

It only makes sense. Backing up at night into total darkness is not easy, either. I usually get out and look, first. Don't have a backup camera and can't see much of anything since the back window had a 13-15% tint. It's always bothered me but fortunately I live in the city and it's usually lit up. My driveway is the darkest I regularly encounter - I really can't see much at all while backing up.
