Adding tags or labels to posts

I saw your request that people start using more accurate titles on threads to help when people are searching for info (https://www.myg37.com/forums/site-fe...-location.html) and it reminded me of a suggestion I meant to ask about: would it be possible to enable us to add tags or labels to threads? If we could add tags or labels to anyone's thread I think that could help the search function tremendously.

I think we used to have this enabled, didn't we? I can't remember but it seems like it. Anyway, I like the idea. I'll direct administrators who can decide on it's feasibility and implement it to this thread. Everyone feel free to sound your support or dissent and why.

I thought we had it before, but I can't be certain because I didn't use it. But I sure wish we had it now. I'm sure this will help everyone's search efforts in finding more hits closer to their intended inquiry.

I see that no one has chimed in one way or another, any word from the admins on the likely-hood or possibility of this?

It would definately help the search function. With all the threads here it would be very useful. I use tags on other sites and it works.

After discussion among the powers that be it's been determined that the tagging system is fraught with problems and potential problems and isn't feasible. However instead of that there is now a thanks button for posts. See the thread here.

Frankly one of the biggest problems with implementing this would be abuse by members. How can I put this? Some people are just plain dumb. They wouldn't understand what it is for and what/how to tag properly and would put tags that would ruin the whole point of tagging posts or threads. Then there's the guys who think they're funny. They'd tag things improperly to show the world how hilarious they are and that "fart" is a funny word and that there's lots of different variations of spelling of swear words that can circumvent the swear word filter. And finally there's the guys who are just jackasses. They'd maliciously put tags on posts or threads to try to disrupt the system as much as possible, rendering it Useless. Then they'd get banned and cry about it. See what I did there?

It was decided not to even put that bullet into their gun. It wouldn't work like it's intended to and be useful and it would make a ton of work for the moderators trying to constantly police it and clean it up. There's already too much work trying to keep the forum running smoothly as it is. It's a shame too because I like the idea and if used properly it would add to the functionality of the forum. But unfortunately, it wouldn't' be used properly.

LOL!! No, I totally feel what you're saying and it makes complete sense...like the guy who kept visiting our profile pages changing his name to obscenities after getting banned. So I have definitely seen this abused first hand. And it really is a shame, because the search function returns such a wide range of results sometimes sifting through them to find what you need can be cumbersome to say the least. But I totally understand the reason for not using tags and labels.
