Did I miss something? New user profiles?

Is there a thread somewhere explaining the new profiles for members? I have just recently noticed these changes and I'm not quite sure what they all mean...

These features are all new, correct?

Award Showcase?

Last Achievements?

Experience?

Activities?

What is the point system?

It's brand spanking new. There will be a thread with a full explanation of the features very soon.

I am still trying to understand it. Do you know why you lost points? I have lost some, too. And what is the incentive to earn all these points? Just to generate more traffic on the forums? Will the site become bombarded with less-than-quality posts now by members just looking to earn points?

Excuse my ignorance. I have been trying to figure this out, , but I'm not doing too well...

** disclaimer : this is not an official explanation, just how I see it **
OK, in a nutshell it may be confusing.

This is the current list of awards and what category/field was chosen for them

MyG37 - Awards
==
I think I lost points for bringing back old threads?? There is a top 10 list for all the categories/fields.

Grave Robber issued for cereal2k on 11-05-2010 04:24 PM.
Awarded for reviving long dead subjects
Fields used: Thread Necromancer

==
The categories for points are divided into posts, threads, user and misc

Check here for more details
MyG37 - Statistics

Points for User Points for threads Points for Posts Points for Misc

So there are a bunch sections for each category etc..

so taking Points for user, there may be 10 categories under it
e.g. Points for User (which may be based on how long you've been signed up on the forum)

e.g. Filled profile - if you filled in all the fields in your profile, there is a specific point per field, maybe 2x points, so if there are 10 fields and you just did 2, you only get 4 points total.

e.g.
Visitormessages - based on the number of visitor messages, this has a point system per visitor message. it could be 0.75 for example so if you have 10 visitor messages, then it's 10x 0.75 to calculate the points.

e.g. friends.- There are points for friends. each friend is worth 3 exp points. So I have 5 friends, so I get 15 points.

details are here

MyG37 - Earn Points

What's confusing is the activities screen where there is no detail for where points may be lost

it seems it's an automatic running tally of the awards.

So you give up an award when someone gets a higher stat than you.

So gravedigger aware (which for some reason is on the list of awards you don't want to get, I think that's what happens when you actually use the search feature and find the question you wanted to ask, but I ) So maybe if user 1 brings up a thread 6 months ago, they get the award, and in the same day if someone brings up a thread 8 months old, user 1 gives up the award and user 2 gets the award.

There is a top 3 list for bringing up the most threads

e.g.

Infracted
You don't want these awards.
In Lockdown issued for brightmix on 11-05-2010 10:49 AM.
Trouble is my middle name.
Fields used: Infractions
Handful issued for SOLISIMO on 11-05-2010 10:50 AM.
Discipline Problems.
Fields used: Infractions
Troublemaker issued for shumby on 12-11-2010 11:51 PM.
What? Trouble just follows me around.
Fields used: Infractions
Grave Robber issued for cereal2k on 11-05-2010 04:24 PM.
Awarded for reviving long dead subjects
Fields used: Thread Necromancer
Life Support issued for | 1cleanG | on 12-12-2010 11:20 AM.
One foot in the grave...
Fields used: Thread Necromancer
Funeral Director issued for TomieG on 12-12-2010 11:20 AM.
Can't stay away from dead things?
Fields used: Thread Necromancer

Yeah, a lot of the stuff makes sense. There is just a lot of information. I think it will take me some time to fully understand and realize what everything does and the implications. Right now I think it seems pretty cool. It could end up being an interesting addition to the site. We'll see...

hey Everyone,

Not sure how this was turned on, we're still tweaking the points system, which requires recalculations each time an adjustment is made, hence the rabidly changing scores.

We're also still working out a couple of other small kinks. It's our hope to launch this fully by the end of the year however.

Based on what you've seen, any feedback so far?

Hey Robb, it certainly looks interesting. My only query is how do you determine a dead thread? (in the infractions list). Some threads just need to be risen some times vs opening a new thread about the same subject. I'd figure if it's over a year since the last updated post and the new one maybe?? I don't know so I'd like to know. There seems to be waaaay too many points deducted for this. I'm busy digging up graves over here LOL

I would almost think bringing a thread back from the dead would gain points...like cereal said...instead of starting another thread, it shows someone is using search!
