I'm taking the coupe to the track tomorrow for a base run with just the Top Speed Y-Pipe and Tanabe mufflers, AKA stock. I'm not a stranger to the track by any means but have only had this car for a month so I figured I would ask you OG guys for some tips. I am automatic and running full weight minus the spare since I never drive with it anyway. I think I'll run full PSI in the tires too, which are G-force COMP 2's.. I hear I should just brake torque it to about 1500-2000RPM and just launch without traction control. When its WOT, there's no difference between Sport and just Drive mode is there? I'm hoping for a high 13 of any kind. What do you guys think??
Also don't have a full tank of gas weight plays a big role. Also let out some air in the rear tires not to much. Definitely run 93 octane and ummm wear your helmet! Lol I haven't been to the track in years... Really miss the good old days
Sorry for the suspense! I don't normally log on unless I'm at work or referencing things while under the hood lol. Well, I like to paint a picture so, it was opening night at the track which in turn made it super busy so I only got 3 runs in :/... I hate to hear excuses but it was only 50 degrees and dropping and took a dash picture to prove it lol.. Needless to say, traction was an issue for everyone! As you can tell I couldn't get a decent 60ft to save my life! I only have a Top speed Y-Pipe and Tanabe Axle back installed at the moment so I consider this a base run. I have lightweight pulleys, FI RHFC and the Takeda intake to install and will get another run afterwards to see any difference on the same tires when it warms up a bit. So anyway, my best time of the night was a 13.9611 @ 100.58MPH, pretty average or even a bit slow for a stock 5AT it seems. I just put it in Drive Sport and let it do the shifting for me every time. It'll be exciting to see where I can take it from here! Here are the slips and a few pictures from the Cars and Coffee meet before we all met at the strip.
Awesome experience pictures man! And yeah traction was definitely an issue with that 60ft time but it's definitely the weather. That's also a really nice group of cars that you met up with Cant wait to see the video
Tip: Air up the front tires to 40 PSI, or to sidewall maximum, to reduce rolling resistance. Reduce rear pressure to 25 psi or so to enhance rear traction.
Anything you can do to enhance rearward weight transfer will help. If you're running coil-overs, set the rears at full soft and the fronts full stiff.
Removing weight is the best thing you can do. In 2002, Sport Compact Car took a B15 Sentra 2.0 to the drag strip. They started stock (about 16.5) and then started removing things and testing each reduction for drag strip performance. They eventually got out the SawzAll and removed as much of the unibody structure as they thought safe. That Sentra got down into the low 14s with the stock drive train.
One more thought - Adjust rear camber to like +1º, so that when you squat on launch the camber will change to 0º and you'll have the most tread on the track.

Good advice. My buddy told me the same thing before I went but the nearest air pump was like 15 miles from the track so the way back would have been sketchy. I'll probably grab a pancake compressor to use some air tools etc at the track anyway for next time.
I remember this. It was a white or silver sentra on bigger wheels at first. they ended up with tiny ones and removed all the but driver seat and then even chopped off the roof with the sawzall...... don't remember start or finish times but was hilarious.
as for the other part: I wouldn't make any adjustments for the track that you wouldn't run IRL because it's not an accurate gauge of what you'll be doing everyday.

Yes and no.. I solely go to the race track to see what my car is capable of, not necessarily to see how fast I could blow by the Barnes and Noble lol. I would never go 0-100+ at full throttle on the street. Doing very minor things like removing a spare or adjusting tire pressure is cool but yeah, I agree, why would you remove your interior or cut off the roof just to put it back in and not be able to backup those numbers against someone.
