Okay WTF was THAT all about???

So I was on my way home from work today and out of no where the G started to sputter as soon as the RPM's reached 2200, then at traffic lights it will idle at 1000 and then drop and rise back up to 1000 again. I had to drive it on the streets in 5th or 6th gear just to make it home. There is NO check engine light tripped so I have NO clue WTF is the deal here. I WAS planning on taking it to Vegas at the end of the month but now I am really worried....I removed the two intakes at the throttle body's and there was nothing out of the ordinary. I did nothing else to remedy the problem. After that the car went back to normal but I am freaked that it will occur again. Has anyone had this problem?? and if so what the hell was the cause? Please, any help is greatly appreciated.

i had this problem for a while. for me it was a bad tune. the car was jumping in to limp mode. does the car not allow you to go pass 2000ish rpm, and if it does it feels as if your red lining the car?

Yea exactly....it sounds like it's bouncing off the rev limiter. It's really weird as I have not touched the ECU or anything for that matter. I wish it would have thrown an MIL but it never indicated any problems....fighting the urge to take it to a Subaru dealer and use it as a trade in on a new WRX STi....

I had this happen about a month ago. I happened to stall out and when I restarted the car it did this. Freaked me out too. And as you said, no engine light or anything. Once I shut the car off and then got back in it and turned it on it was fine. Haven't had an issue since. I'm thinking it got a bad start and the ECU went crazy. Once it restarted it was fine and good to go. Talked to all my mechanics about it and they told me not to worry about it basically. Just a fluke issue that sounded like a computer error on a bad start.

My 370z did that to me one time.. it started while I was in the mcdonalds drive through line. I got it home and I made sure all my lines were tightened with the typhoon intakes and then disconnected the battery and after that I never had a problem again.

I just had this happen to me. FREAKED ME OUT!

I was driving home from work and before getting on the highway, my 2011 IPL began to sputter at 3000 RPM -- regardless of what gear I was in, I could not go over 3k or it would sputter uncontrollably.

Luckily I was able to take some city streets to a nearby Infiniti Dealership -- where I left it. The car is fully stock with no mods at all. There was NO check engine light on and I tried to restart the engine a few times to see if the problem would go away -- no luck.

The car is relatively new -- only 20,000 KM's (yes, I'm Canadian). Still haven't heard from the dealership as to what the heck the problem is. I'll post it here when I find out.

My fear at this point is that they won't be able to recreate it.... OR they'll assume that it was a computer issue and just send me on my way. I want answers on this not just a "let's see if it happens again". Stay tuned.....

Really!!

Aren't you the one that overtightened the Takeda or Injen sleeve, and got rubber sucked into the throttle body??

@ BB_Sam:

Ha! This happened to me last weekend! My car is still in the shop. You in Ontario?

The dealer said they called Infinit tech and were told it was a "rolled front timing cover" (whatever that means). So they ordered the part and went to replace if but then the tech noticed a head gasket that looked like it had gone bad so they're changing that too. Hopefully that will be the end of it. Scared the hell out of me as well!

I figured there had to be someone else with this issue. Did yours also sputter at and over 3,000 RPM? Yup, I'm also in Ontario. I'll PM you -- curious which dealership has your car. I won't find out until Tuesday when the dealership reopens whether they've concluded it's the same "rolled front timing cover" issue that they diagnosed in your car.

Sounds like a MAF issue. I know from my SR/RB days. When the MAF was bad or even dirty thats exactly what it would do, but at 3K RPM.
