I don't quite understand why you got a citation for careless driving.

 

Because he rear ended, it's your responsibility to insure you have distance to properly stop in any circumstance, failure is careless driving.

Proactivity is the lesson here for most of your problems, try to avoid situations in advance like not parking close to anything your doors could possibly hit. I even drive a couple miles out of the way of my regular commute to avoid a rather hazardous lane merger required by the shortest route. I'll pick a different restaurant if decent parking isn't available.

damn sorry to hear about your bad luck. good news is you arent hurt and it could have been worse. my buddy just totaled his g35 today when the same thing happened.
