Bout darn time they come up with a V8 coupe (at least that is what I am expecting) under the Infiniti brand. Should put the FX50 engine in the new coupe.

Of course, this will then make the G37 an entry level coupe. wtf?

 

Lexus dropped the ball on the LFA.
Honda dropped the ball on the NSX.
Nissan may have the ***** to get it done. They will deserve mucho props for this. I believe they can do it. They brought us the GTR, why not slot something between 370Z/G37 --- GTR.

 

^ The GT-R is Nissan's answer to the NSX and the LFA. I wonder what this infiniti coupe is going to be though... hm.

 

Why would they call it the Essence? Should pick a letter between the G and the M, like the K.

 

Not sure about calling it a K but I'm with u 100% on getting a letter assigned. I think Essence will be replaced if it does make it to production. Can't wait to see it

Its freakin sexy...It also looks to me like it is rwd with boost..and they say 600hp..man thats going to cost alot...just like a GTR. This is the GTR's competition right here.

 

Well they keep saying in that article that we wont actually get this car, but some of the design cues will be in future models. Anyone notice the two toned interiors down to the black and brown seats!

 

ooooooh well the car looks sick. i noticed the interior. looks weird but its something new, it will grow. I didnt really like how the directions are on the gauges.

 

Today at the Geneva Motor Show, Infiniti officially unveiled its new hybrid-powertrain concept car, the Essence. Embodying what <NOBR id=itxt_nobr_1_0 style="FONT-WEIGHT: normal; FONT-SIZE: 100%">Infiniti</NOBR> says is the essence of its brand, the rear-wheel-drive sports coupe is designed to celebrate Infiniti’s past, while show off some new technologies.

Under its svelte bodywork, the Essence is home to Infiniti’s first-ever <NOBR id=itxt_nobr_3_0 style="FONT-WEIGHT: normal; FONT-SIZE: 100%">hybrid</NOBR> powertrain, a 434-horsepower twin-turbo 3.7-liter V6 that teams up with a slim, disc-shaped “3D” 158-horsepower electric engine for a combined 592-horsepower.
The <NOBR id=itxt_nobr_4_0 style="FONT-WEIGHT: normal; FONT-SIZE: 100%">electric</NOBR> assist motor has about twice the torque of a conventional motor thanks to a layout that Infiniti says optimizes the electromagnetic coils and permanent magnets.
Inside, the Essence features custom luggage by Louis Vuitton, and a driver-focused asymmetrical cabin layout. The driver’s side of the cabin features a black “theme,” while the passenger’s side features an “earthy red theme.”
The Essence’s exterior features some familiar design cues, but it also debuts the automaker’s new “Dynamic Adekaka” design language based on Japanese traditions. A long hood and short rear deck make the Essence look more like a sports car of the past, at least proportionally, while sharp lines and complex surfacing feature details based on Japanese cultural pieces, like the “kanzashi” hairpin worn by women wearing kimonos.

My first thought when seeing this on autoblog was 'holy RX-8 batman'. It's going to have to grow on me from a styling point of view.
