CA uses Livescan to check on criminal backgrounds. Especially Felons

isn't there a law in CA where they can't check a person's criminal record if it's past 7 years?

They can check but you don't have to be upfront with it if its been more than 7 years.

You work in transportation. If you are engaged in interstate commerce, you well know that there are certain felonies that disqualify you from working in certain jobs for life (Homeland Security reasons). Your criminal background can be checked as far back as an employer wants to check. I used to do this and catch felons lying about their background attempting to get a job they were disqualified for because they were arsonists, murderers, etc.

yeah, i am aware of that. i did past the tsa background check and got my twic and haz mat. there's only one record that lingers on my record right now which is preventing me from getting any job. i was doing some research on the net and found they were saying they can't search beyond 7 years. i never lied about my past convictions when i apply for new jobs. it was much easier back then to find a job but now. all jobs require to do extensive background checks. i'm stuck!

don't flame on me guys! everybody had their past!

The ones I've used are pretty accurate. You can subscribe to a service and run one on yourself if you want to see what's there. If something came up on a person that they hadn't disclosed I always verified it with court records which are public information unless its closed (minors and such.) Then typically gave a person a chance to explain.

I was always they type of decision maker that felt what you did in your past wasn't necessarily as important as what you are doing now and what you have become/accomplished since then.

thanks BB! i subscribed to two different sites and both came back clean with 0 records. my cases has past 7 years already. i think CA could only check records up to 7 years. that's probably why it wasn't there. btw, i have a job interview tomorrow. i must pass a pre employment and drug test in order to get this job. i'm stressed!

LOL! Well you know right now if you're going to pass or not! If you're clean, no stress necessary; if you're not, you already know you're going to fail so why stress about it?

If you are just stressed about the interview in general, relax. We're all behind you so go nail it and get this job.

thanks again BB! for almost more than a decade this will be my second job interview. maybe that's why i'm kinda stressed out and i do need this job.

i'm still skeptical about those two sites that i ran my record at. still unsure if they're 100% accurate. at least both of the site came back clean and i paid $50 bucks for it. i hope i get it! good luck to me!
