Infiniti Meet Tornado - 6/29/12

Just pulling onto Interstate 70 East outside of Columbus, Ohio - this is what overtook me from behind, yesterday at about 5:00 PM. I took this picture with my cellphone after it moved on ahead, knocking over telephone poles and a tractor trailer. The air was full of roofing tiles, plywood, and pieces of corrugated metal, and while I could hear the debris smacking into cars around me - my G37 miraculously escaped the slightest damage!

When I arrived in my home town, after following the storm eastward, this was the road to my house:

The power came back on late today!

Nope. Just lots of branches everywhere. My neighbor wasn't so lucky. His big tree came down on BOTH of his cars. Most people are still without power and are queuing at the few open gas stations and fast food joints.

Here's my neighbor's house and front yard:

Normally, I'd feel that the untimely demise of another big black chromed-out pickup truck would be cause for celebration - but I feel bad for my neighbor! His other car is almost hidden under the leaves, but it was damaged as well.

We've had our one bad storm of the year - I hope.
