Somewhat offtopic - What to do for a date around the city?

I guess this might be somewhat offtopic, so feel free to move it to where it belongs. =)

So I'm planning to take this girl to watch Les Miserables next week. She's taking along her siblings, which are all 18+.

I'm trying to get on her good side... and she told me to plan this night. So I'm here to seek your help. We'll be leaving San Jose around 5'ish and the show doesnt start until around 8.

Where do you guys recommend we get dinner at?

The answer, of course, depends on how much you're willing to spend. I'm partial to Le Colonial - the upstairs has a pretty good bar, and I like the atmosphere. I also like the Top of the Mark - good view, albeit pricey.

She's taking others on YOUR date? I'd tell her to call you when she is serious.

Well if they're carnivores I would suggest House of Prime Rib or Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Good food and atmosphere at both.

My GF and I are going to Les Mis on saturday with dinner at House afterwards.
Now, I'm guessing that with her sibling being 18+, bars and most clubs would be outta the question.
As for dinner in the city, damn, too many good restaurants to pick from. How fat's you wallet? Are you paying for the sibs too?
On the upper-end, I'd highly recommend "The house" in north beach. If you can get a table, the food is killer. (try the seabass) Other than that, try House of Prime Rib (My friend Geno's a waiter there), Scoma's near fishermans wharf for seafood, or First Crush.
If you get a second date (minus Sibs) try Julius Castle. Very romantic and great food/wine.
Good luck.

Les Mis eh...playing at the Curran Theatre I think...they're one of my clients...!

Well if you're talking about "dining", there's always "MAX's OPERA HOUSE CAFE" x the street...! Reasonably priced, waiters there are performers. I would say it's about $25.00 - $45.00 per person. It's comfy...for something "UPSCALE" there's always the CHAYA on the Embarcadero / Mission. If it's just you two and no kids even 18+, reservations are not necessary. Call and ask for Chris...she's the manager there...if she isn't there...ask for "CLAUDE"...tell him Bobby Kwok sent ya and he'll take care of you...I haven't been there in a while..used to be a regular there on pool nites.
It's more of a wet bar and the food is ok...little pricy but nice ambiance and view of the bay bridge...

For casual...further down...there's always MOMO's...great food, full bar...and very affordable...!

Let me know what else I can do for you...GOOD LUCK!

Make sure there isn't a Giants game that night if you go with MOMO's. If so, there will be some drunk @ss MF'ers there.

now if she's a baseball fan/sf giants fan...and the kids love baseball..then that would be a fun event to take them too on an off day or nite..but not after les mis and there are some drunk a$$'s there during a game i'd agree...

hahah you guys are so funny! everyone seems to be suggesting hearty or pricey places. from a girls point of view.. something light will do (i dont think youd want to go to the play with food coma). and since youre taking her and her siblings you dont want to be spending a lot of money and a lot of time (waiting for food). she shouldnt expect you to take her and her siblings out to a poshy resturant.. youre already taking them to the play! save the fancy stuff for later on when its just you and her.

something id recommend is this thai resturant called osha. theres three locations in sf. its cheap.. id say about $10-15 a plate and its really good. check out their website: oshathai.com. the one on 2nd street is the most fancy looking inside. id take her/them there.

if you dont want asian food.. theres a place on fishermans wharf called nonna rose. seafood and pasta. its also $10-15 a plate. check it out: nonnarose.com

sorry.. i HAD to get my opinion in.. especially since im a girl who loves to eat! anyway.. goodluck with your date.. errr.. dates!

I second anceegirl's vote for Osha. You could also try out R&G Lounge on Kearny.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. All the locations are awesome.

The siblings are going because she wants them to enjoy a nice musical. I guess that's one of the things I like about her, how she worrys about others.

But next time, I'll definately go alone =)

yeah.. please do report to us where you guys end up going and how it goes..

and a side note on bringing the siblings.. i don't think that is a bad thing at all.. the girl i'm seeing right now asked me if her sisters could come watch the movie with us, and i didn't mind at all.. she was just like yours, myst, just caring about others.. they ended up not wanting to watch the movie we were watching anyways..

i think it's worse if it the date brings a friend.. but then again, it could be them not feeling completely comfortable just yet..

anyways, i've babbled on long enough.. good luck
