Hi guys I got an m35x 09 same drive belt system as an g37 for the same year the problem is my auto tensioner won’t budge any way it’s the socket below the the bolt to loosen the belt I’m not sure if a have enough leverage or not but it’s won’t turn ether way I looked at videos and every video seemed to turn it pretty smooth wondering if should put pb or wd-40 on the socket or just remove the auto tensioner all together thanks 🙏🏾
( I’m the first to change belt since factory)
I am afraid that even I can't figure out what you're saying/ asking.
There are only two (2) bolts. One bolts the tensioner to the engine block and the other (which is inaccessible) bolts the pulley to the tensioner. Are you talking about the square recess which is used to release the tension?
Just take a ⅜" ratchet wrench (no socket needed) and insert into the square and turn counterclockwise to align the locking holes. You may need a small "cheater pipe" to gain a little extra leverage. Once aligned, insert a screwdriver or similar diameter tool to lock the tensioner.
Now, if you are unable to move the tensioner, ie. it is "frozen," then replace the tensioner. In fact, a 14-year-old car with unknown mileage I am sure it is overdue for the tensioner to be replaced. In any case, good or bad, if it is pitching a fit, replace it.
