2013 G37 Coupe as first car
2013 G37 Coupe as first car
Male 16-year-old High school junior, I found a 13 g37 coupe near me for 4.1k runs (with "no issues" afaik) with only 120k miles. It seems like a great deal, but I wonder if it's a good decision. I have been saving and have a part-time job, so the cost, repairs, gas, and maintenance are covered. My parents agreed to cover some of the insurance (I have had straight As all of high school, so that helps lower the cost, and I am paying 25%). The commute back and forth between home, school, work, and the gym is like 20 miles at the worst five days a week (say, like 100 miles a week). 93 gas near me is 3.8 a gallon, so give or take 80 dollars for 320 miles, so a full tank every three weeks. The only money issue might be needing to quit my job for a summer internship if accepted. Is this a good decision, or is it too much power for a newish driver (license for like two months, drove a good amount with permit too)? It's the auto, and I am p sure it has AWD.
Also couldn't find this answer anywhere, Do all 2013 g37 coupes come with ds mode? Don't want a manual if I am coming home tired in traffic but still wanna have the ability to shift.
Thanks in advance!

A 10 year old Coupe with 120k miles for $4100? That seems too good to be true. It might be a salvage title.
Insurance for that car for a 16 year old boy will be brutal, so be sure to thank your parents.
Find a station with 91 octane. There's no value in paying for 93 unless you're tuned for it.
All AWD G's were automatics.
My advice is yes, that's too much car for a typical 16 year old. When I was a kid back in 1981, and I wanted a car so-o-o bad, somehow I ended up with a Firebird. That car (and the next Firebird, and the next Trans Am ) ended up demanding way too much of my time, attention and money. All of which could have been better spent on college. I was an A student in HS, but college... not so much. I blame part of that on the cars, which is to say I blame myself for making poor decisions.
That doesn't mean my story is going to be your story, but it's the only story I got, so take it for what its worth.

I have an 18 year old son and just bought a G37 for myself. I’ve decided not to let him drive it when I’m not with him because it has so much power. There’s a reason Facebook Marketplace is littered with salvage title G37s.
You’re a teenager. You will have lapses in judgment. Best not to have 330 horsepower and rear wheel drive when you do. Find yourself a stick shift Honda, Toyota, or Mazda and have fun driving a slow car fast.

⇑⇑⇑ There are plenty of "adults" who can not handle 330hp as well.. I shudder to think of teenagers...
Could not have said it any better. 30+ years later and I still miss my old Civic (I really should start restoring it, I guess)...
