Radio & Cluster not working 2009 G37
So I recently bought a used G37 with 139k miles, and all the main components of the car work except for my radio and cluster. I was aware of this when I bought it but thought I could get it fixed somehow, I wanna see if I can do it myself as I have already visted a radio store and they were saying my issues would cost me 3-4k across my dash, whenever I turn on my car the cluster is blank, no mileage indicator, every other light is working fine though, the display screen takes a long time to load up, and gives me a "map and CDDB update process was interrupted. You must restart and complete update process for system to function." or "HDD not functioning" The A/C works, but whenever I turn on my radio its just static and some muffled words from the radio. I want to say it might be a fuse, but I don't know if it could be that since the display screen isn't blacked out, when I visited the radio store they told me my car possibly had a roof leak since it had a showing of corrosion, definitely could be the reason for why it doesn't work, but I just wanna listen to my music and see my mileage, it's my first car and I'd like to learn how to do its proper maintenance, I can afford a new display on ebay, but I don't know if that would fix the static issue, or if the message would show up on the new display, the car no longer has a warranty, any help is appreciated.
To sobeIPL's point, there should be two (2) connectors marked with yellow tape. Make sure these are plugged into the white plastic rectangular box mounted on the headunit. That box controls most of your gauge cluster functions. It also would be wise to check all of your fuses.
If you are still getting the "HDD not functioning" then likely the headunit is shot. While HDD failures are relatively low, they are 13-14 years old +/-.
Report back and we can go from there. The AV/infotainment system on these cars is relatively easy to diagnose/ repair and replacement (used) parts are easy to source.
