Hi, this is my 2007 Skyline 370gt SP 5 speed automatic which was imported in to the UK in 2019. Other than the advan f15 wheels it is completely standard. The music box is still loaded with Japanese songs and the navigation only works for Japan (it thinks it is sat at the docks in Yokohama)
It has 50,000 miles from new and a complete set of service documents in Japanese. Google translate is a great help. I have owned it for 11 months and took delivery just before the country introduced COVID-19 restrictions which stopped unnecessary journeys. Only one trip to the coast last summer when the restrictions were lifted for a bit.
I spent a lot of time looking at the forum for information before buying the car. The G37 coupé was available in the UK but on 70 to 80 were sold over 5 years and it was easier to find a JDM version. Having owned a JDM 2001 RX7 before, I was happy to go ahead with another import.
It was sold in Europe and the UK as an Infiniti G37 in saloon, coupé and convertible form. AWD was only available in the saloon.
A car tax based on Co2 emissions in the UK costs approximately $1000 annually. Similar cars from Audi, BMW and Mercedes were all available with smaller more tax friendly engines and were perceived as being more up market. As a result the Infiniti models sold in tiny numbers and the brand has now been withdrawn from sale in the UK and Europe. Only a handful are ever for sale at any one time
The JDM Skyline 370gt SP has a similar specification to the G37S with the updated brakes, four wheel steering and the paddle shifters. Because it is a grey import it was never tested for Co2 emissions and as a result the car tax is less than $500 annually.
That's interesting... USA didn't get the G37 Coupe until the 2008 model year. In 2007, the similar car was the G35 (with the 3.5L engine).
Boy, she's a beauty! Fantastic finish, looking tasty on those patio bricks, from that angle, blue skies and all.
Thank you for your kind comments, I am very happy with the car. The Skyline V36 went on sale in Japan in the fourth quarter of 2007, in the UK a grey import can be given an age appropriate registration plate from the the year of manufacture. The G35 was not sold in the UK however the JDM version has been a popular import for a long time.
I have replaced the steering wheel bezel because of the normal issues and the bonnet (hood) gas struts had to be changed as they would not keep it up. There are a couple of marks on the paintwork that need to be sorted and the wheels could do with refurbishment. That is going to have to wait until the lockdowns finish.
I am thinking about replacing the sat nav with a UK compatible system, however the parts are $1000 and come from Estonia!

Thank you for your kind comments, I am very happy with the car and intend to keep it as standard as possible. I have replaced the steering wheel bezel for the normal reason and fitted new gas dampers to the bonnet (hood) as it kept dropping when open. There a few small areas of paint that need redoing and the wheels could do with refurbishment.
I am thinking about replacing the infotainment system with an English language OEM unit with European sat nav but it costs $1000 in parts and comes from Estonia which might complicate things now that the UK is not a member of the EU.
Correct me if I am wrong, but was/is the 370Z readily available in the UK? Depending on availability- and cost- of spare parts, you may be able to use the infotainment/NAV from a 370Z.
The 370Z was available in the UK and sold in reasonable numbers. The idea of using it’s infotainment system is a possibility and they are available online for around $500. It seems that the JDM V36 had two generations of infotainment, the first from 2007 to 2009. It is likely that the 370Z is similar to the second generation in the V36.
The problem with both options is that I still end up with a decade old nav system that my mobile phone easily beats. I would also loose all the fantastic Japanese music from the music box!
My car also has the camera mounted in the passenger door mirror that shows view down the side.
You are absolutely correct in that the V36 received a minor update in 2010 and does share the same infotainment system as the Z34 (370Z), R35 (GT-R), and a slew of other Nissan products.
Whichever route you decide, if I can help in any way...
Welcome mate. G37s are quite rare in the UK. Euro 4 (or Euro 5?) really messed up the market for Infinitis in Europe, ironically they have more FX50s than the US. Be careful of parts from Estonia because you know why . If sat nav isn't a big deal, you can do a nav-delete. But then you lose the Japanese music. Not sure if you can transfer it out since I only us CDs.
...Not sure if you can transfer it [the Japanese music] out since I only us CDs.
There is no way to pull or "rip" the tracks out of the hard drive without some rather complicated computer skills. Even then, the tracks are not stored as mp3 files but some- rather obscure- .scd (Square Enix Sound Container) file format.
I am not to worried about the sat nav or the music content, for the time being I am going to spend the money on getting the small areas of damaged paint sorted and the wheels refurbished. We are not meant to leave the house other than for a very limited number of reasons at the moment so the car is on a battery conditioner in the garage.
The roads have been salted recently and as it is JDM, the under seal is nonexistent. I am in two minds about getting it done. The JDM RX7 that I previously owned had been undersealed when it was imported, however a number of drain holes became blocked. The Skyline is intended for enjoyment rather than the mundane trips and won’t get used during the winter months.
A little of Brand I know but this is the RX7 that I owned before the Skyline. It was great to drive when it was working correctly, but the Skyline is a better all round package especially as there are now three of us and a child seat would not fit in the back of the RX7.
