Talking New member! Finally decided to join!

Hello everyone! I've visited this forum many a times when it came to troubleshooting any car related problems or DIY projects that interested me. I bought my 2008 G37S Coupe w/ a Stillen SC back in February of this year. I'm glad I finally made the decision to join the community and am hoping to be a contributing member. Looking forward to discussing our G related problems and projects!

Found a G35 in parking lot. Brotherly love

Current project right now: Replacing clockspring (airbag light is flashing after installing new steering wheel trim)

The previous owner has had the Stillen supercharger on the car since 2016. I believe they kept the original tune that came with the SC kit since then. Is having the Stillen canned tune for 4+ years detrimental to the engine? I plan on installing the SOHO A2A intercooler, along with bigger injectors and a bigger fuel pump, in the near future.

I did a compression test back in June and two of the cylinders (4 & 5) are below the 10% threshold (235psi and 216psi, respectively). Is it worth doing a custom tune and the upgrades right now?

Welcome! Very cool that your coming in with a SC upgrade off the bat. Makes for a fun experience.

The Stillen tune is garbage to say the least. I would still do the upgrades and tune to extend the life of the motor and to get some better performance but that cylinder variance would be a concern if it were my car. Luckily, VQs are plentiful and picking up another for 700-1,200 is an option if your motor lets go.

Welcome to the forum. While a supercharger on its own is not detrimental, maintenance is. It's likealy at one point the car saw lean wide open throttle pull or excessive pulls that raised the air temps too much which is common on the stock Stillen units. A2A will improve your air temperatures. A tune will balance your air fuels and ignition possibly being able to squeeze an extra 100whp after IT and the cooler upgrade.

Save $1k for an engine. I say this for once it blows which at this point you'll loose compression over time. The upgrade and tune will tempt you many times and will make the numbers worse over time. How long? Months, possibly 2 years or so.

The great is a newer, unopened, low mileage unit can be had for 1k and will support the supercharger for 500-700whp on proper tuning/fueling/etc. Much proof of unopened engines on a reliably 500whp.

Good luck, as always post some engine pics!

It also came with an Invidia exhaust and test pipes. Not sure what else has been done to the car. Wish I was able to get a hold of the previous owner.

What's the go-to place to pick up a low mileage engine? I found a 2013 G37 engine with 25k miles on buyusedengine.com for $1.5k before tax and shipping costs, but I'm sure there are better places to shop at.

I'll definitely be saving for another engine now, but I'll ride this puppy until it blows. Hopefully it lasts 2+ years

At least 600whp is what I'm trying to accomplish. Heck, I don't even know how much it makes right now. Will do some dyno pulls soon..

That's awesome! I haven't really done anything to mine other than have the inside lights changed to white instead of yellow and I really like it. Not really sure what else to do or where to start, I am trying to just fix some things that are kinda broken and bugging me.
