Exhaust or intake?

Can someone tell me what is better? To get intakes first and then a new exhaust system? Or an exhaust first then intakes? Or does it just not matter? Thank you in advance!

Intake is always a DIY project, and costs less than exhaust components. You might get a little bump in performance, but most of that is between your ears once you start hearing that intake howl.

Exhaust mods (cats? catback? axleback?) for most people means time on the lift, with overall costs a great deal more than an intake. Most exhaust upgrades will result in a noticeable bump in performance, and a significant increase in noise.

It doesn't matter at all which you choose to do, or which you choose to do first, if at all. The only thing that matters with regard to sequence is to get your intake and exhaust mods in before you tune.

Couldn't have said it better than Rochester.

A couple things I will add is to do your research on here and listen to sound clips on YouTube thoroughly. Plenty of threads on here for multiple intakes and exhaust systems. Invest and a buy quality system to avoid potential future problems or disliking the exhaust.

Thank you.

I truly appreciate both of you. I ended up scooping the Stillen Catback exhaust. I’ve been looking into for a minute.

I personally never recommend Stillen. But it's still better than OEM, so there's that.

The Stillen sound is better than stock, but still somewhat soft and unremarkable. The FI sound is fantastic.

The Stillen tips & cans are clearly better than stock, but not nearly as drop-dead gorgeous as the Sebring Tuning components that Fast Intentions uses. Not even close.

Stillen pipes use sleeves and clamps, whereas FI uses brackets and bolts.

Stillen fitment is good, but FI fitment is always spot-on, all the time.

Basically, Stillen is a good exhaust, but FI is better, which is why it costs more.

Waste? No, it's an upgrade, no matter what you do here.

But let's say you spend another $200 for shop time. Now you're into this project for $1600. When you look at that number, and think for just $300 more you could have a noticeably better setup, well... it's easy to spend someone else's money.

Thank you for your time brother, it means a lot. I just have one last question that I’m sure you know the answer to, down the road let’s say I want to make my exhaust louder, because I’m pretty sure I might want to, well is there a way I could like customize the stillen and put a different y pipe or something that will add a louder sound? Or is that Catback not customizable?

It's metal you can customize it any way you want lol.

IMO you just spend $1400 on a decent, nice looking exhaust; why hack it up? If you end up wanting something different or louder down the road. Save up, buy a full exhaust system. Then you can sell you Stillen, unhacked, at a decent price.

Or cancel your order/return it; buy a full Motordyne setup and call it a day. You said not too loud but then maybe you do want loud, so you need to decide lol.

You are so right! Thank you for your opinion brother. Is it possible to cancel an order I just made today?

When that day comes, start researching high-flow catalytic converters.

Oh and the "loud but not too loud" requirement gets tiresome faster than it takes to write it. It's right up there with, "good exhaust but not too expensive".
