Salvaged vert

Bought a g37 convertible from auction. Drivers side rear quarter ding. I’ve read about the convertible’s nightmares AFTER I bought this thing. It starts, no chocolate milk on the dipstick so I think I’ll try to resurrect it. What is a deep cycle battery? Apparently I need one of those, change oil, transmission fluid flush, coolant flush; differential...the works. No owner’s manual and the sticky didn’t work. I saw that maintenance schedule, so I’ll try to get the important stuff done. Now what’s this about a rear gasket fail?!! Do I need to address that immediately? 2010 g37s convertible 101,000 in the clock, needs cosmetic surgery. I tried to use the roof but the interior lights flashed violently and the car cut off. Another jump, started right back up. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ewwww I hope the hydraulic pump isn’t ruined (I’m sure it’s toast)

the windows work and if the top doesn’t at least it’s closed

Rear oil gallery gasket failure: a butt-load of info in the Tech/Engine, Drivetrain and Forced Induction subforum.

Deep-cycle battery: you don't NEED one but it would give you peace of mind.

Trans flush: do NOT use a pressure flush. Procedure is three drains and three fills. Look in the Tech/DIY subforum for more info and videos.

Inspect the differential. If there's fluid on the back side, the silicone-filled diff bushing has ruptured. You can drive it that way (slight increase in NVH) or fix it, either with the very expensive dealer solution or use the more reasonable Z1 Motorsports or Whiteline bushing replacements. Again, see the Tech/Engine, Drivetrain and Forced Induction and the Review/Engine, Drivetrain and Forced Induction subforums.

Check this board over from top to bottom, you'll find everything you need to know.

Thanks. I’ve been reading up on it. Seems like if it hasn’t been done already I need to get er done. Since I live in Arizona (110 degrees tomorrow) the water pump needs to be done anyway. It appears as if you have to tear it down to get to the pump and while you’re in there might as well change it if it’s the gremlin part. Clearly I need to find an infinity guy in Phoenix.

A Z shop can do the job, too.

I was letting it idle and wouldn’t you know it the oil light flashes periodically. From what I’ve read that’s the oil pressure indicator not low oil level. So this is the big one I fear. Curses! Foiled again!

He (Slartibartfast) was referring to a "Z" shop,- a mechanic that specializes in Nissan "Z" cars. Mainly because the G37 and 370Z share the same engine.

Being that you have to replace the water pump, may as well replace the gaskets and chain/tensioners.

I hope you did not buy a financial black hole.

A “Z” shop. Dur! I’ll set a limit on spending. Anything over 2-3k I’ll stick with my Mazda.
