08 G37 for $2,000 but has 271,000 km

Currently driving a Nissan Altima coupe, but have the opportunity to purchase an 08 G37S coupe. The seller is willing to part with it for $2,000 but it needs about $2,000 in repairs - basic maintenance, engine and transmission are in good shape, no damage to the body and no rust. Only drawback is the high kms, but most of those kms are highway miles, not city miles.

All in I'll be about $4,000 invested before tax. My Altima has 151k kms on it and is in decent shape. I'm sick of the CVT transmission and have always wanted a G37S.

Is it worth investing with those high kms? How long do the transmissions in these Gs tend to last for before needing replacement?

Should add I am looking to use it as a project car and upgrade aesthetics as well as performance over time. But a base of 271,000 km is high...

Worth the gamble?

Transmissions are pretty solid and if they were primarily hwy miles it's not much of a gamble, and TBH $4k isn't much of a gamble regardless. You could probably part out the goodies on the car and recoup your $4k if it all went bad.
Pre 2012 3.7 motors have an inferior oil passage gasket that is prone to failure and can cost up to $2k to replace, but if you are doing repairs you'd probably want to put in a new timing chain and associated parts if you plan to keep it awhile, and in that case you're already there, only cost another $30 in parts to get that gasket updated at that point.

I would do a complete transmission service (3x drain & fill and a pan clean) if you do the deal.

I'd roll the dice if the other repairs you mention aren't too crazy.

Welcome to the site!

Thanks! So, I bought the G. So far after taxes and ownership transfer, I'm invested $2300. Having my local shop tear into it to see what it needs. I took your advice and will be having them do a full transmission flush, check the timing chain and will also be looking into a replacement option for those faulty gaskets. I'll browse the site more but if you have any recommendations for replacements to prevent leaking of those gaskets, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks for the welcome, I plan to use this site quite frequently as I built this G up.

Cheers!
