Day 1

Hey folks,

I'm Austin and I'm 34. I'm from Kentucky, near Louisville. I'm new here and looking forward to the useful insight and wisdom that typically comes with a car specific forum. I just recently purchased a 2012 G37XS sedan, black with black leather interior and only 59k miles on it. I gave up a modded 2004 Volvo S60R 6spd manual to get it. I'm very pleased thus far. I've had it for two weeks and for Christmas I added 20x9" F1R F101 wheels, bronze in color (think Vossen VFS10 and they look similar). My plans are to tint it, drop it/bag it, black the chrome trim work, add a tesla type screen, full bolt on's and a tune and then love it for a long time. I was a long time lurker of the classified here before I found mine at a car lot 200 miles away.

Anyway. Hi.

Thanks. I'll try not to present as a noob and ask too many searchable and already answered questions. I've got some mechanical background and some experience making tutorials/instructions. If I ever get the chance to give back to this place, I will.

Welcome.

Out of curiosity, why did you part ways the the S60R? I have a S40 T5 with the M66 that's on the chopping block as it has become a hassle to keep it on the road. Was wondering if your experience was/is similar to mine.

A lot of reasons. For starters, the R model has a lot of parts that are unique and come with a premium price. The 4C struts cost $499 each and without them you have a light on, on the dash. The front passenger axle cost $800 while the other three axles only cost $69.99. That Axle was made just for the all-wheel drive R. The factory HID bulbs cost $99 each, the first time I purchased. Eventually I started finding pairs of them for $40. The factory clutch was $730 the first time I priced it out. These are all prices without labor.

Couple that with the fact that there's not a lot you can do to make the R look really good... You just own a quick s60 is all. I had a phuzzy front mount intercooler, 3 inch OBX downpipe cat delete, 3 inch pipe into a borla xr1 muffler, upgraded mass air flow sensor, Hilton stage 2 tune.

Then lastly a saw G35 coupe that caught my eye. I started looking into them and I discovered the G37 had more power. I checked Instagram for the G37 hashtag and ran across a lot of really nice cars.. especially the sedan G37. I started pricing out parts and cars...and here we are. Haha

So basically my experience thus far lol. Priced out my clutch, which recently just went, and the cheapest complete set-up was $100; and that was switching to a cheaper single mass. Luckily, it's a very easy car to work on but good Lord does it break to easily if you just look at it too hard.

The G37 will be a nice change of pace.
