New here, would like to become part of the G family

Hello all,

So this is my thread on this site and I love the forums and feedbacks Ive found but I have some questions I need help on. I am looking at two infinitis. Engine and transmissions are good, everything is mechanically sound. No major reported issues on either car except for valve cover leak on 2012 Infiniti. I found out through pre purchase inspection.

1. 2009 g37x sport sedan with 150k, carfax reports about 30 service records. Dealer asking $7 grand. Should I be worried that its high mileage. Its apparently one owner.

2. 2012 infiniti g37x sport sedan with 74k miles, carfax does not report much service records, 2 owners, some aftermarket, reported to valve cover leak and rusty undercarriage, dealer asking $15k. Rotors reportedly need replacement soon, hence slight rattle in steering wheel on brake.

So price is not TOO much of an issue but would anyone be interested in either? or avoid one or the other?

I know MPG is not great I'm willing to adjust. I just want someones honest opinion whether you would approach either car or walk away.

Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the site!
$7k typically won't buy much in the used car market, so for that reason alone I'd take a harder look at that 09. You could buy 2 of those for less than the price of that 2012.

To blnewt,

Do you have any concerns with the car at 150k miles?

For $7k I'd be more willing to go with it, what does $7k buy, not much.

Just stay on top of the fluids and the wear items and should be pretty solid as long is it drives well and looks to be well taken care of.

An inspection by a mechanic is also a good plan.

I'm with Newt. I'd rather have the issue free old timer than the new(er) lower mileage honey pit. The VQ is pretty stout so have a compression test done and if all checks out - '09 all the way. What's the worse case scenario? Motor blows? For less than 5k you can get a 30-40k mile motor and have installed for less total investment in the '09 than what dealer is asking for the 2012.

I'd go with 09 as well. Unless they are hiding something, it sounds like a great deal. Definitely needs an independent thorough inspection.

You can be a family member by sending every active member five bucks. No, six bucks. Draft beers are a tad expensive.

Lol rounds on house for everyone once I'm rich. I greatly appreciate all feedback here. This really helps me. Should I check for rust in undercarriage or anywhere else on car?

The more you examine prior to purchase the less surprises down the road, so yes, be thorough when going through it. If you can take it to a mechanic & get it up on a lift, even better!
