Hello all,

I've been lurking on these forums since last summer when I bought my G and I've finally decided to introduce myself.

I got a great deal and bought my 2011 IPL G37 Coupe in August with around 62k KMs on it. It has the Malbec Black colour, which I love, and a red interior. I came from a '96 Camry so this has been a huge upgrade for me and I've been loving every second of it so far.

A couple of thing's I've done to the car so far are plastidip my grille to make it look like the Midnight Black Grille. Originally, I wanted to purchase the OEM one but I was quoted $700 from my dealer and you could imagine my reaction to that.

I also put on stock 19" G35 rays to use as my winter set and I think it looks pretty good on the G.

A couple of mods I have planned for the car:

- For exhaust, I have a set of FI RHFCs on order from Lance from Next Level Performance and I plan on putting those on as soon as I get them. I like how the IPL sounds now, but I want to make it a bit louder while keeping the current sound and this was highly recommended in the forums. I'll have to hear how it sounds when it gets installed but I'm hoping it'll amplify the IPL sound.

- I have also been doing some research on tires to put onto the stock IPL wheels as Summer is nearly here and I've seen on the forums that a 245/275 set up along with a set of spacers is what many people go with for a wider and meatier look. As for the tires themselves, I've been looking at a few tires like the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s or the BFGoodrich g-Force Sport Comp-2s. The Pilot Super Sports would be nice but that's a bit over my budget.

- As for cosmetics, I want to get one of those Stillen Licence plate relocators, but I'm worried about the holes that will be in my bumper after I remove the bracket. I saw the bumper plugs on the forums but I just cant justify spending that much especially with how the Canadian dollar is doing right now. So I've been thinking about a DIY solution.

- A little bit further down the line, I also want to lower my car a little bit and improve the handling a notch. The Tein Flex Z seems like the best coilover option for me but I haven't seen many reviews of them on the forums thus far. I see that KW's are the most popular but I don't plan on tracking my car and the issue of them being too low has led me away from them.

Here are a couple pics of my car for now:

Thanks for looking and any tips or advice will be greatly appreciated!

- Chris

Hi Chris, nice IPL you've got there and that Malbec looks awesome. Nice choice for winter wheels and sounds like some good plans you've got down the road. Might also consider Bridgestone S0-4 Pole Positions, Hankook Ventus V12 Evo, and Kumho Ecsta PS91. Here's a list of tires @ tirerack in those sizes, and the three I listed are all Max Performance Summers, they should offer a bit better wet/dry grip vs. UHP Summers.

If you are a DIY guy here's a link that may help when you remove your stock cats, that 50:50 Acetone/ATF mix works great to break the rust bond on those bolts.

Thanks for your reply! I'll take a look at those tires as well when choosing my summers this year.

Thanks for the DIY link as well, I'll take a look at it but if I don't think I can do it then I think I'm just going to take it to a shop to get them removed and installed.

That Malbec BLack is SERIOUS!! Love the car and IPL and Rays both look nice. I'm like you, the Midnight Grill is too expensive for me. I can put that money in to other mods. How long have you had your grill PlastiDipped? Any current pics? Has it held up well? I'm not a big fan of PlastiDip but I'm considering it for the grill insert

I've had it plasti dipped for around 7-8 months now. Its held up pretty great. When i did it tho, I wanted to keep the top and bottom chrome like the oem Midnight Black one but the plastidip didin't tear properly so it's kind of jagged around the edges. You can't tell unless you get really close.

Heres a pic of the grille.

If you want to improve handling, get a set of hotchkis sways before anything. You will be Amazed what those will do to your car. One of the best upgrades, imo.
