My own newbie thread

Hello all,

I'm rewriting my own new introduction thread after I previously hijacked RMB5190's thread earlier this week. And thanks RMB5190 for allowing me to butt in - we have very similar tastes in cars!

Just bought this '09 G37X sedan with 89K on it. Going away from our VW TDI after their buy-back program, and decided to fill the void with a quick-fix used car with more sports-sedan amenities (and get-up-and-go!) Tried an Audi A-4, a BMW 3-series, and a VW CC. Wife wanted AWD so the CC was quickly eliminated. When we saw this G on Craigslist, she fell in love with it and we snatched it up. We are crazy happy with it. Tough getting used to the fuel-mileage hit after seeing 50mpg, but she only drives 7K - 8K per year, so the hit to the pocketbook will be negligible.

Only problem so far after 2,000 miles is the shift linkage fell apart. Stuck in Park, so we had it towed and the local dealer replaced the entire mechanism. They couldn't source the individual parts, so I was set back around $700. Just got it back today, and the shift feel in the lever is fantastic - it must have been getting sloppy before it calved. Interestingly, while at the dealer, they pulled all the service records on the car that were not included in my packet of goodies and we found out that the transmission was replaced at around 30K miles under warrantee. (The PO bought it as a certified used-car with 33K on it, so my records didn't show earlier work.) I've had no shift problems with it, and in fact love the 7-speed.

Not too much planned for mods as it's "her" car. Wheels, brakes, and maybe throatier exhaust (and intake?) And of course with nicer wheels will come a minor lowering, but that'll be hard to get approved as she loves the ride as is. We have a stiff-spring older Z-car and she constantly warns me not to do that to "her" car. Maybe I'll be able to sneak it by her if I get the right setup .

Very much enjoy this forum - I've already learned so much about our Gs that I only wish I had bought one long ago.

Thanks - now I'm just waiting for RMB5190 to hijack this post! He's more than welcome - he was pretty gracious when I did it.

Great group - and great cars.

Nice "official" intro Dave, and RMB better chime in, lol. Glad you got the linkage taken care of, too bad you had to take the hit on that but glad you're happy w/ everything now.
Keep us posted on what your plans are and nice looking G there

Thanks for the welcome (again!)
The hit on the shift mechanism does hurt, but like I told Black Betty, I got a crazy deal on the car and figured I'd have to put some cash into it with almost 90k on it. I'm still amazed how it runs and drives at this age. Still tight and quick. Good service records too, so I expect only good things (fingers crossed ).

With the exception of a few squeaks and rattles our 09 w/ 88k is still real tight & solid. Our 07 G35 had 140k on it when our friend who we sold it to traded it in and never any problems. Hopefully you've had your only setback and it will all be wine & roses here on out

Hey Everyone! I want to take a second to introduce myself! Long time lurker here on the si....Lol J.k.

Glad to hear the car is holding up so well! I always have to smile a bit when people are looking into purchasing a G37 and ask about it's reliability and fortitude. So many guys seem to be running these cars well into 120k+ with no issues and I believe I saw one with over 300K+ miles!?! Anyway, welcome Dave! Looking forward to seeing more pictures!
