Considering G37.....

Hi All,

Considering buying a 2014 G37. What are the typical issues with these cars that everybody deals with?

All cars have them, would like to know up front.

Thank you!!!

Chris

There really isn't much to be concerned about, just make sure to get it inspected. What are you looking at? Sedan, coupe, awd, rwd, A/T, M/T? More info and people can give more better things to pay attention to.

Thanks Epiphany. Looking at a 2014 G37 (not an S and not a Journey) rwd sedan, 6 cyl naturally aspirated, from a dealer. It's not a CPO, claims to be 1 owner on the CarFax, about 28k miles. They want $26 for it.

I did a bunch of research before I bought mine. Looking for mechanical problems like the cars that I had in the past....I couldn't find anything substantial like the BMW M3 S65 engine had connecting rod bearing clearance issues, Z06 LS7 engine had valve seats that were not concentric to the valve guides, Ford mustangs Coyote engine had Cylinder 8 failure all causing engine failure and $$$. All cars like you said have something but these cars are about as solid as they get. At least this is my research up to this point and a week ago I bought a 2013 G37s Coupe so I feel pretty confident that its a good deal!

Now the price you paying may be a bit high as the sedans typically are lower and the miles are bit high. Example, I bought a 2013 G37 Coupe S with 18k miles 1 owner clean carfax and haggled them down to 25,500.

Personally, I'd say it sounds like a fair deal. If you think in the future you'd want the big brakes, LSD and the other fun things that come with the S package you'd be better off waiting for one to pop up even if it's a couple thousand more. Otherwise get it checked out and it should last you for years of enjoyable problem free ownership.

No known issues w/ 2014s, the pre 2012 Gs have a timing cover gasket that can fail but they've since gone to metal lined gasket so you're good.
G/L and welcome to the site.

Yeah what blnewt said, the gasket issue is NOT on your model. Otherwise, the only known things I can think of are the interior brushed metal pieces scratch easily and sometimes there's a little squeaking noise from a plastic trim piece rubbing on the windshield, easily fixable. My roommate has had his sedan for years and has literally done nothing besides oil changes.

Highly recommend you find an S, for nothing else but the seats. They are soooo much more comfortable.

yes I love my seats! I tried a G37 which was cool but when I took the g37s for a drive the suspension was so much tighter and the seats were better.

also the infiniti brakes are a nice added touch too...better? probably....I think the infiniti brakes have more pistons probably

Congrats on the white S coupe, nice find!
And yes, the brakes are a 4 piston fixed front and 2 piston fixed rear along w/ 14" rotors.
