Red face Hello, Newbie needs some help

Hello everyone,
I hoping to become the owner of a G37 sedan.. My problem is, I have been doing some research on the car and finding some problems.
There is a 2009 Journey S that has low miles, 39000, has some cracks in the dash, as if someone fixed the radio and cracked the dash near the controls. Nothing major but you notice them. seats in great shape and body has one scratch on it.
There is a 2011 Journey (non S) with 50000 miles on it.. Have not been to see that one in person yet but looks in just as good of shape.

So what I've been reading is the the 09's has problems with running condition, with the car cutting off while driving.

they are about the same price, I would rather have the 09 cause its the sports model. Both are auto trans.

I just dont want to buy a car and have to worry about the engine dying while my family is in it.

Thanks for any Info, Yes I know to use the search feature.. lol

Welcome to the site, not sure about the 09s being prone to dying and leaving you stranded. Do you have a link to this condition? The one main issue is the inferior timing cover gasket on models prior to 2012, if it fails it's a 18 hr shop labor charge (around $2k to fix), most are fine but for those that have it rear it's ugly head it can be a PITA. If you can somehow find a 2012 in your budget it may be worthwhile to check into it. We had an 07 and now an 09 and both have been trouble free FWIW.
The S pkg does include many upgrades, so that is a good G to consider regardless of year.
G/L w/ your search and let us know what you end up with.

I've also read about sudden acceleration on both years.. Also about the Battery issue, but I think that was fixed in the 09, probably why the dash was cracked.. lol

But if All go well, I will have it very soon, and I'll let you guys know.

Thanks for the response.

One last question... do you think $20k even is a good deal for a 09 g37 journey S, with 40k miles is a fair deal???

Depends what similar vehicles in your area are selling for. The S pkg does add a lot of nice upgrades, so that's worth a premium over a standard Journey.
If it's in great shape I'd say it's a fair price, but there's several around here that have gotten exceptional deals (but who knows if they're all being honest).

If that's the case in your area I'd hone in on that one, sounds like it's got everything you want (except a warranty).

20 grand for a 2009 with a cracked dash? That's crazy. These cars aren't worth that much anymore!

The coups seem to be a grand or two less then the sedans. But i cannot find anything within 200 miles of me that has less the 50k miles on it and less then $18k.
The coupe will not work for me. Do to my kids fitting in the back. Lol
The cracks are short and hardly noticeable.

That's odd. Around here the coupes are more $$$$. To me it seems like the car is too old for the price. Got my 2013 in October with 7800 miles on it, CPO w/ 100,000 mile powertrain warranty for $25,332. I figure that same car would be $24,000 now!

No used car is perfect. You are going to have some issues but the smart way to go is to purchase the top of the line extended warranty like I did and you'll be set.
