High pitched whine and steering wheel shake

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem or have any thoughts on what might be wrong?

My G37 x Sport suddenly developed a loud high pitched whine which seems to match up with engine RPM's. At speeds between 5 - 30 MPH the whine is quite noticeable, above 35 MPH I cannot hear the whine, but it may be masked by normal engine noise.

At the same time there is a significant shake in the steering wheel when I make a low speed turn. The shake is not noticeable when driving in a straight line.

2010 G37x Sport
Approximately 66,000 miles

Thanks

Sounds like a problem my buddy had with his 2009 maxima. Have the wheel bearings checked out. Your description of the sound and when it occurs sounds exactly like his.

NY Shad0w - do you have aftermarket audio installed in your car? Sounds like a grounding issue. I have the same in my car - I need to find a better ground or a 2nd ground for my amp.

If you do have a system - trying disconnecting the power to the amp and then try running the car.

High pitched whine and steering wheel shake

I'm not much of a gearhead so I did a Google search and the top cause of the problems that I described was a problem either the power steering fluid or the power steering pump. I checked the PSF reservoir and found the level was low. After a quick trip to the local auto parts store and about $7 out of my pocket I filled the reservoir. When I restarted the engine the noise and the shake were GONE!
