Must haves

Good morning everyone! I just signed up on this site yesterday, there's a lot of great information here.

I was hoping to get some opinions on what "must-haves" people think I should invest in. I just got my 2013 G37s(coupe) a couple weeks ago.

Intake? Exhaust? Electronic...anything?

Looks like the Cusco strut brace is pretty popular.

The only thing I know for sure that I'm going to do is stick a sub in the trunk. It looks like the company's who were making the enclosures(single sub side "cubby") most people have been buying are out of business. I'm assuming I'll have to have a custom box built at one of the local shops.

Aside from fuel...and tires which I'm sure I'll be going through quickly...

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

-Chris

It is really going to depend if you're looking for performance mods, sound mods, or just for looks. For me the first thing i saw when i came on the forum was 180 headlights and I fell in love. Those for me were a must have.

As far as the sub enclosure, you're more than likely talking about 4080 boxes. You can find people selling them here on the forum. I actually found a different company online that make a pretty good one. Feel free to PM me if you want more info on it.

zenclosures and 4080 are two choices that most people go with as far as sub boxes go.

Must haves are suspension and wheels. If you do anything at all, these 2 mods will go the furthest as far as looks go. If you want handling, sway bars are a must have. If you have MT, people say that the RJM clutch pedal is a must have.

You must have whatever it is you want and can afford. Everything else is a matter of opinion

Is there a consensus on which suspension is the best to go with? The car came with the pretty nice 19's(silverish), has anyone tried powder-coating them black/dark?

I have the Auto(with paddle shifters).

If I only was only able to pick a few mods, I would do coilovers, wheels, and window tint.

Depends on your budget. If you can afford coilovers, get them. If not, a set of lowering springs will get you by. Doing some search on the forums will net you lots of info. It's been cover elevntybillion times. With eleventybillion and one pics.

And good call on window tint, like the other poster said.

Window tint all the way, thats the first thing I did. You'd be surprised how much getting your windows tinted will make the car look 1000x better. Without the tint, its just looks blah. I went with 15% all around, looks awesome.

Yeah tint is getting done this week. That one was always a no-brainer.

Which Coilovers seem to be the crowd favorite?

180Custom headlights were my first (and still favorite) mod. As for coilovers, I'm very happy with my Fortune 500 coilovers with the Swift spring upgrade.

Depends on budget, the Stance SS coils seem to get the most consistent reviews for a mid priced coilover and are available in true coilover (where the rear is all one unit like the front) or the OEM setup where the rear spring and shock are separate. They also have Swift brand coils so that's a plus. You can find these in the $1050 to $1100 price range but you'll also need camber/toe kit which is another $500 for the complete set (350 for the front and 150 for the rear& rear toe). The KW3s are one of the best but will ring up about $1800 for the set. For daily driving and occasional tracking the Stance should be fine, for serious road work the KWs FTW.
Headlight mods are also a good place to look, the stock fresnal lenses are pretty bad so a lens swap w/ a TSX-R from www.theretrofitsource will make a nice difference along w/ some custom paintwork.
Have fun w/ your new G and welcome to the site!

The first mod you want are hotchkis sway bars. The cheapest and one of the most useful mods. Then imo i'd go with an exhaust, then intakes then coilovers. But then again that's just my opinion but definitely get the sway bars, they are the best bang for you buck
