Soon to be G37XS owner
I'm in the last stages of purchasing a a 2010 G37XS sedan, and working out the details has certainly been a struggle. I'm buying it from out of state so I had it inspected at the local infiniti dealer. The power steering has a leak which will be covered under factory warranty. I asked the salesman to have that fixed before I pick the car up and that was when I opened the can of worms.
He gets it to the dealer who finds out the part they need is 2-3 days out. I need to pick the car up this weekend, and the dealer isn't sure they can get the part on before Tuesday.
so here's my question... knowing that the car has a power steering leak would it be safe to drive my new investment 800+ miles back home and let my local dealer handle the situation or would that be too risky? The out of state dealer is really making it sound like a bad idea, and that I could break other things which would then not be covered under warranty due to negligence. I called my local dealer for a second opinion who said, ya, just don't let it run out of fluid.
It is just power steering which is not really a critical system. I've driven cars in the past with power steering leaks and would just top off the fluid when I heard it whine. The difference here is that this is my nice new infiniti and I don't want to treat it poorly. I'm looking for someone to confirm that it will be ok, and I can drive my car home this weekend without too much risk.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I probably should have posted this in the tech forum, but it looks like it worked itself out anyway. The part came in earlier than expected and the car will be ready for me to pick up. Can't wait to own my G!
