I just recently started looking for a used G35/37. I have been doing some research on here and some other sites. I have driven a 2007 g35 sedan and coupe and I really liked them except that they were automatics. I cant wait to get behind the wheel of a 6 speed. I am coming from driving a honda civic si for 8 years so it should be interesting.

Any advice in my search for a used G is greatly appreciated!

 

If you are use to shifting a Civic Si, my first advise is to drive some G manuals and see what you think (the shift feel is Very different, I came from a 98 Integra GSR and a 06 Si).

I've also had both the G35 and now the G37, so the choice for you may come down to what you want to pay. They're both great cars, the 35 can obviously be had cheaper right now, and there are Tons of mods available for this platform. The 37 offers more Tech/Amenities so it depends on how you plan to use your car too (If you're looking to mod it to be "racy", and along the sporty use of your previous Si, maybe you should get a 350/370Z, if seating/style/semi-lux is more important to you than definitely get a G).

 

The clutch in the G does have a sort of learning curve. Even with that, it's still clunky in its stock state. There are 2 mods available that change the feel of the pedal (Group Buy - Clutch Pedal Assist Spring for 6MT - MyG37) and the location of the friction zone.

I only did the first one (pedal feel) to mine. It is quite possible to adjust all the free play out of the pedal which may cause the clutch to not engage all the way, causing premature wear. Some have tried it with no problems. My last car had a high uptake so i was very used to it, and not an issue.

I don't think there's too much difference in the driveline/trans of a coupe or sedan 6mt, so test drive what ever is on the lots near you.

I'm also looking into the G37 but I've never driven a manual car until a few weeks ago. I'm doing pretty good (my friend's 06 civic coupe) but I still have a bit of trouble with the N to 1. Think it would be rough to have a G to fine-tune my skills in?

 

N-1?? You mean taking off?

 

Not too much on the takeoff, but more so when I'm stopped somewhere uphill (Yield, Stop sign etc). I tend to jerk off and accelerate off quickly...

 

but again, only have been out driving the stick a few times now. Would it be a steep curve to get totally comfortable on a beautiful G?
