Dealership or private seller?

Hey everyone,

I'm a n00b here looking to get a 08-09 G37S. I'm wondering if its better to go to a dealership and work with them on what they have in their used inventory or what they can get from other dealerships, OR to skip that and search for my ideal car through a private seller. I'm kinda weary to do it through a private seller but I feel like I can get the best price for what I want that way...

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Boci

You will almost always get a better deal through a private seller then through a certified pre-owned from a dealership.

Check out Craig's list in your area, auto trader, etc. You can ask the dealerships but be prepared for a higher price most likely.

bluedevils95, did you march BD in '95? Carpe Noctem is a great show!

Unfortunately I don't live in CA or even remotely close to west coast....

I'm also wondering if a place like carmax might have as good a deal as a private seller, but I doubt they'd have a wide selection of 6MTs....

you will get a much better price out the door with a private seller...however will a certified dealer car if there are any problems they dealer will pick up a lot of the cost (in most cases) whereas with a private seller you're completely on your own.

so if you find a car that you KNOW is good from a private seller then go for it.

Definitely private sale - NO QUESTION!

You have a good chance of getting a lease car from a dealership, which I think would suck. Who wants an old lease that someone beat the crap out of?

Be patient and you will find a good deal with a private sale.
