Obligatory new member thread
Hello,
New member here, contemplating purchasing a new g37x towards the end of the year, came aboard to read up on them/convince myself.
Other cars I'm considering are a Subaru Legacy GT and maybe a CPO 335xi, but from what I've driven so far it's really between the Subaru and Infiniti, I also contemplated a AWD Dodge Charger, but I'm pretty sure that'd be a fun car for about a week, I'd like to keep this longer then that
.
I've owned many a turbo'd Subaru, 2 WRX's, 2 LGT's and a STI, but I'm now in my 30s with a kid, so I'm looking to go a bit more upscale, while keeping myself happy.
Still fighting to justify the 10k price difference (looking at sport, premium and nav packages on the Infiniti) and attempting to convince myself I can live with an automatic.
With the Infiniti for the 10k difference I've got it figured down to
- Badge
- HIDs
- Transmission (worth more even if it's a neg in my mind)
- Smart-key
- Motor Smoothness, more power (v6 vs turbo 4, 265hp vs 328hp)
- Better Stereo and Nav (hard drive base, voice commands)
- Better warranty
- Arguably better dealer experience (certainly better loaners lol)
The infinity does give up over the Subaru
- My familiarity with the brand
- 400#
- Size (LGT is a tad bigger)
If anyone else wants to chime in I'm all ears

IMO, your best bet is to get the Infiniti and compare for yourself. You're already familiar with the Subaru. Excellent cars from what I hear.
I am on my second Infiniti. I had an '04 G35 with all options except Nav - and liked it so much I was NOT getting another car unless it was the G37S. And even though I have a newer, more powerful version of my old car... I still love that car.
If you get the G37S and drive it for 5-6 months and find yourself longing for a Subaru... you can always sell it and go back. Hard on the pocketbook, but you'd have your own experience comparing the two instead of relying on a bunch of biased G owners.
I'd say rent one for a week or so, but I don't know of any rental car companies that would have an Infiniti G37S.

Thanks for the replies,
Since my first post I've written off the Subaru, as their tech package can't compare, I did test drive a '11 Acura TL and really like it a lot, the added bonus that I can get it with a 6-speed really has my gears turning.
I think I'm going to wait a bit and see what's in store for the '12 G37s, then try to test drive the G and TL back to back and go from there.

Gibjer - Acura TL is front wheel drive. G37 is rear wheel drive.
Ever seen a front wheel drive car on the Nascar circuit? No. And there is a reason for that. It is infinitely easier to push than to pull... (infinitely... that's a funny!)
Anywho... the Acura is uglier'na bag o' buttholes, too. (IMO)

I understand the TL is FWD biased and the G37x is RWD biased, while I am looking for a sporty day to day car, it won't see the track at all, if I wanted to do that I'd get a miata and something cheaper.
That's what has me thinking about the TL, the differentials are very good, and it takes quite a bit for the traction control to kick in, it'll first try to save your butt with torque vectoring before cutting power and adding brake. My test drive of the g37x had the electronic nannies kicking in quite early.
For my purposes, both cars are fast enough, and sporty enough to satisfy my commuter road race needs
