First gear has the lowest ratio.Hens harder to turn.On a hill you should turn your wheel into the curb also .I do first or reverse if on a hille depending on the way the car is pointing.

I keep it in neutral almost all the time. Only time I left it in gear was when I was at my friend's home in Potomac with this steep drive way, I would leave it in first

Terry, with remote starts now, you cant even leave it in gear or it wont be able to start.

um..I just leave in in P don't know what ratio that is ..ahaha j/k. I do the parking brake unless on hill. In the begining, I'd always leave in gear and forgot so it stalls and makes me look retarded. So now, I only do it on hills.

1st gear + e-brake

although e-brakes tend to be pretty solid they are not perfect. No harm in having the trany/engine as a backup.

I've parked on steep driveways and streets and the e-brake sometimes disengages and the car WILL roll down if not in gear. So putting the car in gear is crucial in my opinion.

I thought about remote start when I got my alarm installed for like 1 min and realized it's frought with too many risks for a MT car. I think that Civic story would be a case and point.

If you're going to leave it in gear, its best to leave it in first. The wikipidea quote earlier was dead on. Its all about mechanical advantage.

they are about the same if im not mistaken. Reverse gear threads dont make as much contact as the rest do due to its type of gear though. Not sure how big of a difference that makes but im sure it does.

1st - 3.794:1
R - 3.538:1

So 1st is a little better.
