Moving to Richmond (VCU), Enlighten Me Richmond People Please!!

Hey guys, I know a lot of you live in the Richmond area. I'll hopefully will be moving there in August to attend VCU. Never actually been to the place ever since 5 years a go. I know maybe a lot of stuff has changed but I'm still hearing the negative comments here and there.

Anyhow me and 2 of my friends are coming down on Thursday to look at some housing and apartments close to the campus/ do some orientation for school and get some Counseling paper work. Trying to live a little bit on a easier side rather then the whole Dorm life. Being almost 20/22/19 years old, those little 18 years bastards coming out of HS could annoy you at times. So me and two of the friends have decided to get an apartment. I've been getting a few quotes and it seems as though a 2bedroom house and 2 private bathroom go anywhere from 700-900 as lease.

Anyways I was wondering the people who live close by to the VCU campus would know anything about housing there and would recommend any apartments. Keep in mind the Z will be coming with me hopefully if things go well with the Insurance and I need somewhere safe. Also two of my friends have a BMW 330CI and another has a Modded Integra that he put a lot of work into. So you can say our car's parking spot is pretty important, specially me since my car is lease.

So any suggestions are welcomed and also any restaurants you guys recommend for us to go to since will be coming there from morning till late afternoon.

The best idea is to park your car in a safe spot. My suggestion would be to park it in Fairfax and walk down to Richmond

I hope you enjoy it down there. I couldnt stand to be down there longer than I had to

Yeah, if you leave it in Fairfax you could just park it on 95. Then it would be safely guarded by thousands of others cars sitting still in traffic.

I think you'll like Richmond. It gets a bad rap for the crime, especially from people who don't live there, but I've stayed in downtown several times with friends and never had a problem. It's pretty easy to judge whether a neighborhood is rough or not, so just don't rent there. Otherwise, the city has a lot less traffic than NoVA, and a lot of good restaurants / clubs / bars downtown.

to me its not so much the safeness of the city but more the mood and daily life. You would really have to be surrounded by a good group of friends to keep things interesting. I wouldnt move there unless I was offered a good 6 figure salary.

Also forgot to mention that the Infiniti dealership in Richmond is fantastic - much better than Rosenthal, Passport, or Jim Coleman. The service manager's name is Brennon, and he's a straight up guy. Tell him Ashley sent you...

Oh can you take the 350z to an Infiniti dealer. That would be great.
