Car Club Psychology

Anyone out there a psychologist that can respond to some random Monday musings?

I've been thinking a bit about the dynamic we have here at the NGC.

Most of us are G owners. Allow me to hypothesize that one reason why we selected G's was to stand-out a bit from the masses, i.e. Honda's etc. We don't stop there - it's not enough to have a beautiful (stock) car; we need to make it our own and personalize it w/ mods (don't tell me all our mods are performance-oriented). Are we really that individualistic? I don't think so, or else we'd be content to enjoy our cars alone. Instead, we apparently have a yearning for acknowledgement or confirmation from our peers. I'm not suggesting we're insecure folks that need to whip it out in a constant "who's got a bigger one" contest (although some folks are like that), but just find it very interesting that men can still be boys when they're consumed with their toys.

I don't mean to downplay the good group of folks in the club at all - it's always a good time hanging out w/ y'all. I assume we all have other friends too, and am just wondering how a shared appreciation for an otherwise unique car can draw folks together.

hahaha i know what you mean vic. i always think to myself...does me modding my car mean i want attention?? do i want attention b/c im not loved?? lol...but to be honest...i love cars, not just the G. I am a complete auto enthusiast and I love to be (or try to be unique) from the masses. I like the feeling of having a nice car, besides i spend more time in my car than in my room!!

I know what you mean about the 'boys vs men' ...this is exactly why I contemplate every/each day going back to stock. But I hate to be so ordinary like everyone else...I like being unique when it comes to fashion and other things as well....not just the whip!!

I am not in competition with any of you guys nor anyone else. I just love the feeling of having a nice car. If any of you doubt my 'competitiveness' feel free to think back to the last meet I attended...I have tried to attend...but have always fallen through. Yet I will always be the first to come to HH where we all just chill...I've grown a bit tired of the talking about cars thing so I'm just in it now to hang w/ my friends....doesnt mean that you having my Invidia doesnt make me want to slash your tires though...but still!!

But I bought the 350Z H-Techs before you and I got the sways on and you dont

Vic, I'm confused on what you're saying. Are you asking why we mod our car? Maybe I need to re-read it. haha.

I wasn't really saying anything; was really "musing".

I think I know why we mod, I just find it interesting how guys that mod get together for reasons that apparently go beyond strictly gathering additional information to help them make decisions about their mods.

These thoughts were a gentle way at approaching the daunting question of what is the purpose for the NGC, and what should everyone's expectations be for the club, and for individual participants and leaders of the club. Since the foregoing questions are rather "charged", I've been pondering the friendlier aspects of the club.

I think the cool aspect is that as different as a lot of us are we all have 1 underlying thing in common.

We like to talk about what we've done with our cars and improve an already great car.

Puria, get outtahere. Don't make me pull out the AIM logs where I told you to get the H-Tech's!!

ya but we're all still insecure. vic is right, we arent men, we are boys...we need simple things like wheels, kits, springs to make the car better instead of making ourselves better. since we're all ugly and cant attract women, we need to attract them with our cars. lool, im j/k guys...

Wow, I think you've found the solution for all of the world's problems. We would have world peace if Infiniti would just hand out G35's to everyone in the world.

Nah, it'd be short lived because the original G owners would start setting rules, like you can't come on a drive unless you've got mrev, and even Devon won't be able to keep up with all the free install requests. And then even certain young members are gonna give-up and not be able to come to all the pants parties. And then the led's will start dying... it was a nice thought.

Don't know bout you guys and your philosophical "musing", I got the G to get girls. I just got tired of all the fat chicks, it was time to take it up a notch. haha, j/k.

Our common interest is that we have a G. We are a social club if anything with a simple common interest or possesion. Personally I like it that way
