Need help choosing tires

Need some advice from my support group...but since they're busy I'll ask you fools. I have the stock Infiniti 18s on my car. I started out with the Pilot Sports (which I miss dearly). After they were gone I decided to go with Kumho ECSTA Supra 712s because they were cheaper. Now I know that the original Pilot Sports were (F: 225/45-18, R: 245/45-18). When I went with the Kumhos I went with (F: 235/40-18, R: 245/40-18). Now my first question is (since I know nothing about tires) what is the range of tire sizes I can go with (front and rear) and still maintain close to the level of sidewall (if not more). Second, I did a quick search of tirerack and found these tires:

BFG, G-Force Sport, 235/40WR18:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=0

BFG, G-Force Sprt, 245/40WR18:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=2

Anyone have any experience with these tires or BFG? Anyone have any good suggestions for other tires? I'm too lazy to search right now. Keep in mind that I am trying to spend $550 or less on new tires. Thanks!

stanton, i had the bfg ta kdw2s in 19s on my old wheels. very good dry/wet traction all around. just remember, bfgs run a bit wider than other wheels so you might get a 'meatier' tire (good so you cant/wont curb rims as easy) but maybe not the best 'look' if you like the stretch look. overall bfg's are a pretty good summer tire.

also price the tires from tirerack.com and discounttiredirect.com and 1010tires.com. then call IOC or annapolis (dealerships where we get discounts and see what price they can offer....better from dealership b/c you get that free hazard/road insurance..)

if you want ratings/reviews look here!!

for those tires you posted...

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....=g-Force+Sport

Surveyed Averages 4 98% 8.4 7.8 7.9 8.8 9.0 8.7 N/A N/A N/A 8.3 8.0 8.2

I would personally try to look at the BFG TA KDW2s...great wet traction...good ratings...

IOC did not give me hook-up on tires and I have a feeling no dealership would since they source the tires from an outside tire shop. At least that's what Ryan Myers told me, he did mount and balance for free though. He said they only made like $5-10 a tire on the mark-up.

I looked at the kdw2s but they will be out of my price range if I get those, granted it's only $100 but you gotta cap it somewhere. I read some of the reviews on tirerack but I was looking for some more personal experience I guess. I'll try calling IOC and calling Jeff at Passport and see what they can do for me. I don't really need mounting and balancing b/c I know a guy at a Honda dealership up my way and he hooks me up.

I was thinking about the wet weather ratings but then I realized if it looks like it's going to rain I'm just going to drive my Jeep. Plus I could really care less about the looks. All I want is cheap and good traction.

Thanks Lek and Deezal, as always you're posts are true reflections of your intellect

I'm still open to other suggestions if anyone wants to chime in.

Nissan/Infiniti now have a tire program where they get them from a wholesaler and come with roadhazard warranty. It is a pretty good deal.

nothing will compare to the pilots.... i wouldn't get the BFGs... if "I" was too look for tires I'd get FALKEN RT 615 <-- They have to be "RT" though. Don't settle for others.... I'd also look for a size larger because the FALKENS seem to run 1 size smaller than they are labeled giving the "stretch" look.

you can read about these tires here.... and even order them:

falken's are so so...the one's lek mentioned are actually good tires. pilots are good, but not worth the price tag. lek seems to think anything thats overpriced or expensive is good....

bfgs are a well known company and quality brand...just read the reviews on them....

naw man.... foreal.. stop hyping stupid tires. BFGs aren't great. Pilots are an all around good tire. It might not be the best "drag" tire but they are definitely good for corning and all around driving. The BFGs may be good in their own way...but they're not the tires for me. I dont want to be cornering and falling off the mountain. I've even driven behind you that one time in Gtown and you were going around the corner and it wasn't even that fast but the tires just skid like there's no tomorrow. I will of course blame that on the tire. Also you've had nothing but bad luck with those tires... skidding from one place to another... thats my 2 bucks.

If you haven't already, check out the user survey stats they have on tirerack.com. I'd look at the over rating, then go in and look at what a few people who rated them high and low had to say.
