I am in the market for something 42" besides what God has blessed me with (I do still have my sense of humor)

Any help you guys could give would be greatly appreciated.

I like my LCD Proj. All of the diff. technologies have pros and cons, and this one struck the right balance for me.

yeah go LCD projection. Plasma's are good for mounting on the wall and thats it. Not to mention just too many probs and maintenance. Get the 42" Sony Wega LCD and you'll love it. Best money I ever spent. Watching HD on it is amazing. You can go into the store and compare side by side and you'll see the diff.

Is size an issue? Where will you be placing it? If it's a bedroom tv, I'd go with LCD with a wall mount but if price is an issue, Plasma. For a living room or bigger space, I'd go with DLP, LCD projector, LCD, or Plasma in that order. A larger LCD gets pretty pricey though. You will also need to consider what type of cable or satellite signal you are getting. If it's not HD, the image won't be top notch so you don't need to spend the extra money for a top name brand.

If you are seriously considering DLP, hope that neither you nor your usual guests see any rainbows. And no, that wasn't a crack at Byrnie...

If you haven't already, check out www.cnet.com . They have alot of reviews, comparisons, and the like. Just make your way to the TV section.

if you're not going to hang it, no point in getting a plasma. So my vote is for LCD projection or DLP. I have a DLP myself and I love it. They have the new 3-chip DLPs now which are even better. I dont' have a problem with the "rainbow effect". I would check out both types of tv's in person and decide then. You can go wrong with either.

I did alot of TV selling when I was working at best buy. You've also seen my parents plasma, john when you came over for that boxing match. If money isn't an issue go plasma it's the best there is. If money is an issue or you want "best bang for you buck" get either a Sharp Aquos (the best LCD hands down) or a DLP (I usually recommend Samsung). LCDS have come a long way recently and they've gotten better in all brands but I still think the Aquos line from Sharp is the best and closest to a plasma for a lot less. If money wasn't an issue for me I would get the Aquos 42" or 47" (i think they have a 47" not sure though it might have been a 45"). The problem with DLPs is they have a narrow viewing angle now I bet the new 3-chip helps. Now with LCDs you have pixels that can go bad, just like on a plasma which goes to show you in all 3 categories there's always a downside to each one. Now something else you might want to look into is a giant flat tube television. Now Sony's Wega series is hands down the best in this category and they make a grand wega in a tube edition which is a 40" TV. Now that's gonna be the best all around (no pixel burnouts to worry about plus built in gamma and brightness filters) is the ******* thing probably weighs close to 400 pounds. My .02.

I didn't hang my parents plasma when I set it up we just made sure we put it on a stand that was at eye-level and ours looks great. I would definitely do the same with your DLP if you already haven't, just a suggestion.

As if your invited.

Besides, what you do with your leather is your business.

I think I will be going with DLP. The Samsung has caught my eye and seems like its a good price for what you get.

What's your budget? There was a great deal floating around for a Infocus ScreenPlay 61" DLP for $2500. It's a lot bigger than what you're looking for but you can't beat the price. It normally goes for $4,000+.
