Ive had directv for over 12 years (Back when it cost $700 for a dish/receiver!!). Anytime I go to a friends house, I can tell the difference even with their ''digital cable' boxes. Once you go DTV, you'll never go back. The picture is amazing and i dont even have an HD receiver. The only thing is the 1 sec lag, since it is a satelitte sending the signal it takes a sec or less to transmit. I remember once I was watching the world cup and over the phone my friend had cable I could/would hear GOAAAL on his set like 1 split second before the DTV but thats the nature of the beast. One other thing, I like the customer service. You can always call and negotiate different deals/offers that other subscribers have, and DTV will match offers AND toss in extras..

I love how Direct TV is offering over 150 HD channels when in fact they are only transmitting regular programing in HD... I chose Dish Network for the better quality pictures.

Be techie. Get the HD receiver and get over the air FREE HD channels, at least the local ones. The quality will be the best and its cheap to setup. It is a fun little DIY project.

Yeah, I was thinking about doing that for the Local channels since I dont know if they are coming in via HD or just standard definition. Those antennas are pretty damn cheap too.

I think you have to tell them, but just verify and make sure that you are getting the 5 LNB dish.

You will get your local channels in HD (Fox, CBS, NBC, etc) and premium channels (HBO, Showtime, TNT, Discovery, etc)

You might also wanna go to their website and look at the complete list of HD channels as well.

I think FIOS beats them all for signal strength and bandwidth.

FIOS is Verizons Fiber Optic Service.

Wouldn't fiber optics data stream be far superior to cable and satellite?
